Colorado PERA's Information Technology team is expanding, and we're looking for talented individuals to join us! We have an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer in our End User Computing (EUC) department. This role will be focused on Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and virtualized applications. In this position, you'll play a key role in enhancing our IT division's ability to deliver complex, technology-driven projects in the EUC domain.
JOB SUMMARY
The EUC Systems Senior Engineer is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for multiple desktop systems and is primarily responsible for assessing, designing, planning, implementing, integrating, testing, monitoring, and maintaining End-User Computing (EUC) system technology across the organization. Additionally, this position is responsible for EUC system security and performance management. This position mentors, coaches, and guides other EUC Engineers and Administrators to address complex technical matters that require proactive strategies and in-depth evaluation. Additionally, this position serves as an escalation resource for the Helpdesk team and EUC System Administrators for technical matters. This position delivers technological solutions as well as participates in and leads short-term and long-term technical projects.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is well versed in all things EUC but has a particular passion for virtualization and significant experience using Omnissa and VMWare technologies and automated delivery. Additional expertise with LoginVSI is also very desirable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Primary SME for multiple key systems in EUC responsible for assessing, designing, implementing, integrating, testing, monitoring, maintaining and securing EUC system technology across the organization including multiple desktop systems and modern endpoint management systems
  • Identifies and evaluates opportunities to improve Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) in multiple areas of SME expertise, designs and leads various solution implementations, identifies, and evaluates new tools and integrations to help EUC staff accomplish the mission of CIA
  • Support for other staff working Level 2 and 3 issues, immediately recognizing solutions without relying on vendor support, occasionally researching, resolving, and documenting root cause solutions
  • Design, oversee and manage patching, system maintenance and multiple tool integrations and mitigations throughout EUC to support vulnerability reduction; including the support of other Engineers and Administrators working on reducing specific vulnerability and security risks; evaluate and review configurations and actions ensuring all changes improve the security posture at PERA
  • Advise, teach and train and collaborate with others in BCP/DR responsibilities and solutions, lead and delegate disaster recovery testing of EUC integrated systems, ensuring documentation is written, up to date, tested, and improved for system recovery and operation
  • Plan, implement, and upgrade significant projects and system integrations including assisting in the design of plans and responsibility assignments to accomplish those initiatives, ensuring documentation of details and review for completeness of ITSM processes
  • Utilize multiple skills to design, review, evaluate and oversee vendor SOWs/projects, participate in vendor discussions to resolve issues, regularly act as a senior resource for staff on existing applications or system operation in the domain, rarely utilize or rely on vendor services and support, evaluate licensing and review quotes for significant new services or tools
  • Apply different and creative techniques to analyze, test, and implement solutions in a prudent and swift manner, foreseeing and avoiding potential impacts on end-user computing environments and colleagues, and leads peers to an understanding of complex topics
  • Decisively optimize future work utilizing planning, testing, and proof of concepts
  • Contributes to, and develops policies, standards, and procedures used by colleagues and teams to ensure stability in the end user computing (EUC) environment
  • Participates in the development of tactical and strategic goals and the roadmaps
  • Provide written communication that is concise, clear, and updated, on both small and large initiatives and reviews ITSM processes to ensure continued progress
  • Collaborate effectively with teammates and vendors with empathy, adeptly use feedback and audience specific language to explain and resolve issues, and manage vendor relationships
  • Provides technical and task leadership, coaching, training, and direction to develop team depth, proactively on moderate to large size projects with minimal supervision required from senior staff and management
  • Periodically attend technical training relating to current and future system support duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in technical (STEM) field and four years of experience in a comparable technical role preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Expert within the end-user computing environment including Windows and Mac operating systems, desktops and end-user applications focused on the objective of improving end-user satisfaction
  • Proven independent design, implementation, testing and management of virtual environments and appliances
  • Demonstrable design and integration experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) systems, including VDI security/system event warnings and errors, performance testing and baselining, resource management, and operational availability in virtual environments; VMWare/Omnissa Horizon-specific and LoginVSI experience preferred
  • Demonstrable design, integration and management of Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Modern Endpoint Management (MEM) systems for physical EUC devices, Jamf and Intune Preferred
  • Expertise as an SME in multiple key EUC technologies/platforms with a solid understanding of system and security implications
  • Significant experience designing and implementing system administration and vulnerability management programs and development of periodic patch and upgrade change management of end user computing (EUC) environments, driving improvement of EUC stability, usability, and security posture
  • Demonstrable implementation, management and maintenance of wireless endpoints (cell phones, tablets)
  • Expert comprehension of multiple business systems, projects, project specifications, and business process logic
  • Design and implementation of secure computer network integration, including WAN, LAN, SD-WAN and Wi-Fi, with integration of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Kerberos, and Single Sign-On. Protocol familiarity with, but not limited to TCP, IP, UDP, HTTP, DHCP, DNS, BLAST, and various Wi-Fi protocols.
  • Skills integrating and improving EUC systems with OS firewalls, gateways, tunnels, certificate management SAML, OIDC, SLDAP, Radius, and cloud and API identity integration and management preferred
  • Demonstrable experience with call-center-scale cloud-based phone systems with virtual client integration, including performance enhancements and quality assurance
  • Demonstrable scripting expertise; Powershell preferred, Python and others desirable

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Standard office environment with frequent telephone and computer use.
  • Occasional lifting and pushing supplies in excess of 20 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work in the office at least 3 days per week to engage with leaders and employees, more if as needed.
  • All employees are expected to present themselves in a professional manner in alignment with the financial services industry.
