SkillBridge - Military EMT Academy

Abbott Ambulance is offering a unique opportunity for individuals interested in a rewarding career in pre-hospital medicine. This opportunity is for military personnel who are within their last 180 days of service, to be used as a CSP or SkillBridge.ย 

What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?

The primary focus of an EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

About the Program:

ย Class is for a total of 8 weeks, Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The first 7 weeks are classroom instruction, and the final week is practical application where participants will work alongside a licensed EMT or Paramedic.Upon successful completion of the class and passing a National Registry computer written test and a hands-on practical skills test, graduates will attain their Missouri and/or Illinois EMT license.ย 

The right candidates must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have proof of a HS diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Have all required immunizations
  • Successfully complete the pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility test
  • Be and Active-Duty Service Member within 180 days of EAS with command approval.

What happens after passing the course?

After successful completion of the course, the employee will be eligible to take a written and skills test offered by the Department of Healthย 

Upon receipt of the state EMT-B certification, employees will eligible to apply for a position with GMR.ย
