This position functions as the primary EMS field supervisor, ensuring system readiness, effective resource deployment, compliance with medical protocols, and high-quality patient care. The role combines op rational command, clinical expertise, personnel supervision, and administrative responsibility in support of departmental mission and community service objectives.
Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities The Fire EMS Captain supervises EMS personnel, coordinates emergency response operations, ensures adherence to medical protocols, maintains readiness of personnel and equipment, and performs administrative and leadership functions necessary for effective EMS delivery. Essential Functions: Serves as system-wide EMS supervisor during assigned shifts. Provides command and control at EMS incidents in accordance with ICS.
Coordinates EMS response based on incident conditions and resource availability. Oversees multi-casualty incidents and ensures protocol compliance. Provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) care as needed.
Ensures compliance with clinical protocols and patient care standards. Reviews and approves patient care reports for accuracy and completeness. Supervises on-duty EMS personnel and assigns daily duties.
Monitors performance and enforces departmental policies. Manages staffing and ensures adequate operational coverage. Ensures readiness of vehicles, equipment, and medical supplies.
Supports training, mentoring, and professional development programs. Completes reports, documentation, and administrative tasks. Additional Duties: Acts as liaison with hospitals, dispatch, and partner agencies.
Assists with data collection and operational analysis. Supports quality improvement initiatives. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Mathematical Requirements: Ability to perform basic and intermediate mathematical calculations related to medication dosages, data analysis, and report preparation. Communications Requirements: Requires strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with personnel, patients, medical control, and partner agencies. Judgment Requirements: Requires sound judgment and decision-making in high-pressure, life-threatening, and rapidly evolving situations with significant impact on patient outcomes and public safety.
Complexity of Work: High complexity involving operational command, clinical decision-making, personnel supervision, and administrative responsibilities in dynamic and often hazardous environments. Impact of Errors: Errors may result in serious injury or death, damage to equipment, compromised patient care, legal liability, or loss of public trust. Physical Demands: Requires very heavy physical work including lifting over 100 pounds, bending, climbing, kneeling, and operating in hazardous environments under stressful conditions.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum five (5) years of 911 ALS transport experience. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Special Certifications and Licenses: Current Paramedic certification. AHA BLS and ACLS certifications. EVOC certification or equivalent.
ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 (300/400 preferred or required later). Ability to obtain EMS Officer certification and other required credentials.
