Job Title: Medical Scribe – Ophthalmology (Float Clinic Role)

Job Description

This Medical Scribe role supports a high-volume ophthalmology and retina practice by documenting physician-patient encounters in real time within the EMR system. You will scribe for multiple physicians, accurately capturing patient histories, exam findings, assessments, and treatment plans while ensuring precise medical documentation and data entry. The position is extremely fast paced, supporting clinics that may see 80–100 patients per day, and requires regular travel between assigned locations to provide consistent documentation support and contribute to efficient clinic flow.

Responsibilities

  • Document physician visits in the EMR system in real time, capturing accurate and thorough medical information during each patient encounter.
  • Record patient histories, physical exam findings, assessments, and treatment plans as directed by the physician.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all medical documentation, including medical terminology, diagnoses, and procedures.
  • Scribe for multiple physicians and adapt to individual documentation styles and preferences while maintaining consistency and quality.
  • Perform precise data entry related to ophthalmology and retina care in accordance with clinic protocols and EMR standards.
  • Support a very high volume of patient care, assisting physicians in managing clinics that may see 80–100 or more patients per day.
  • Collaborate closely with clinic staff and a team of other scribes to support efficient clinic flow and patient throughput.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all healthcare documentation, privacy, and data protection standards.
  • Travel between assigned clinics several days per week, providing consistent documentation support across multiple locations.
  • Participate in training at the administrative building as required and apply learned protocols and standards in daily work.
  • Coordinate with clinic teams to understand daily schedules and priorities, and adjust workflow to meet patient care demands.
  • Use strong typing and computer skills to enter data quickly and accurately in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Essential Skills

  • 1+ years of on-site medical scribing experience; remote scribing experience is not considered for this role.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a life science field.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and electronic medical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, particularly related to ophthalmology and retina care.
  • Experience in medical assisting or direct patient care in a clinical setting.
  • Accurate and high-volume data entry skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Fast and accurate typing skills suitable for real-time documentation.
  • Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality and follow healthcare privacy standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in an extremely fast-paced environment with 80–100 patients per day.
  • Ability to travel regularly between clinics and work as a float across multiple locations.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, Monday–Friday position with schedules falling between approximately 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., depending on clinic needs. Start times that early and end times that late are rare and typically occur only when the clinic is extremely busy. The role is a float position tied to three primary clinics, with a home clinic in a high-volume location that can see 100+ patients per day, and regular travel to nearby clinics several days a week. Transportation is provided for routine travel, and travel time is paid. On rare occasions, usually for trainings, you may be asked to support a clinic outside of your three primary locations, with mileage reimbursed for such trips. You will receive your schedule two weeks in advance and work as part of a team of 8–24 individuals, with each physician supported by a dedicated clinic staff team. The environment is extremely fast paced, with clinics seeing 80–100 patients per day, and involves advanced ophthalmology and retina care as well as exposure to high-level clinical research trials. Training is conducted at an administrative building before you begin working in the clinics. The dress code requires navy blue scrubs, short and well-groomed nails, and hair tied back at all times to maintain a professional and hygienic clinical appearan

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.50/hr.
