Qualifications & Requirements:A high school diploma or equivalent.
Additional training in early child education or special education is desired
Must possess an Associate's degree or 60 semester hours of coursework documented on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education; or pass a formal state assessment such as Master Teacher's Para Educator Learning Network (Parapro test paid for and administered by the district).Must be willing to become certified in Child/Pediatric CPR and First Aid.
Must be willing to earn a Child Development Associates credential (or the equivalent) with the support of the District.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Skills in human relations.
Knowledge and understanding for young children and children with special needs.
Ability to maintain good discipline standards as prescribed by the classroom teacher(s).
Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.
Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response.
Skills in time management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists teacher in classroom planning, preparation, implementation, and management.
Assists in implementing and gathering data for child portfolios.
Assists in gathering data for individualized student programs.
Supports individualized education plan for each child including special needs areas such toileting, diaper changing, tube feedings, wheelchair transfers, augmentative communication and behavior management.
Supports the implementation of Department of Health regulations, National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation and any state and federal laws that are implemented in early childhood programs.
Assists in managing non-instructional tasks such as preparing the classroom, following attendance guidelines and updating student health information.
May accompany teachers on home visits.
General Information:Assists teachers in an inclusive preschool program by implementing age-appropriate activities and lessons, maintaining positive relationships and working effectively with young children, staff and parents, performing duties with moderate to light supervision.
