ROLE SUMMARY

Matthews is seeking a Research Analyst to conduct fundamental equity research and investment analysis in support of Portfolio Managers. The ideal candidate is an independent thinker with a strong passion for investing, intellectual curiosity, and a collaborative mindset. This role can be based in either San Francisco or Hong Kong.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct in-depth fundamental equity research and investment analysis.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of individual companies, including evaluation of financial and non-financial performance drivers.
  • Analyze industries, business models, products, and services.
  • Assess company management teams and participate in meetings both in person and via teleconference.
  • Build and maintain financial models, valuation analyses, and forecasts.
  • Monitor portfolio holdings and fund performance, including asset allocation, risk exposure, and diversification.
  • Evaluate macroeconomic trends, political developments, currency movements, commodities, and regional and country-specific risks impacting portfolio companies.
  • Collaborate closely with internal partners across risk management, compliance, distribution, and marketing.
  • Engage with current and prospective investors and support marketing and client communications efforts.
  • Travel internationally, including to emerging market countries, approximately 20–25%.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CFA designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of fundamental equity research experience; emerging markets and Asia experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus.
  • For U.S.-based candidates, permanent U.S. work authorization is required.
