What are Emergency Room Medical Scribes?

Emergency Room Medical Scribes are trained professionals who assist physicians in emergency departments by documenting patient encounters in real time. They handle the electronic health record (EHR) system, recording details such as patient history, physical exams, lab results, and treatment plans. By managing documentation, scribes allow doctors to focus more on direct patient care, improving efficiency and accuracy in a fast-paced ER environment. Scribes may also assist with tracking patient orders and helping with communication among the healthcare team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Emergency Room Medical Scribe, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Emergency Room Medical Scribe, you need a strong grasp of medical terminology, attention to detail, and the ability to accurately document patient encounters, typically supported by a high school diploma and on-the-job training. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical charting software is essential. Excellent communication, multitasking, and adaptability are vital soft skills for working efficiently in a fast-paced ER environment. These skills and qualities ensure precise documentation, support effective clinical workflows, and enhance patient care in high-pressure healthcare settings.

  • Two years of college in a healthcare-related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Successful completion of clinical orientation and demonstrated competency
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with providers
  • Customer service experience in fast-paced, high-volume, or high-stress environments
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, growth, and professional development
Schedule

PRN (as needed) with a minimum commitment of two (2) 12-hour shifts per month, including rotating nights and weekends (Saturday & Sunday).

Why Join Hospitality Health ER?

We're building a team that values kindness, professionalism, teamwork, and a genuine passion for helping others. Whether you're pursuing a career in medicine, healthcare, or emergency services, this role offers meaningful clinical experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive PRN pay
  • Night shift differential
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Additional benefits available for full-time employees
