Job description

Backup Admin

Responsible for the engineering, implementing, and managing high-end storage and backup infrastructure. Responsible for supporting backup applications and networks and resolving I/O issues related to business applications. Provides resolutions to an extensive range of complicated problems. Solutions can be based on SOPs, innovative, thorough, and practical. Works under limited direction independently does troubleshooting and determines root cause and solutions to the issues. Work is evaluated upon completion for adequacy in satisfying objectives. College degree or equivalent experience; advanced studies/degree preferred. Typically has 5 - 7 years related experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and solution a large and complex backup & recovery environment (currently Dell Avamar) including leveraging the emerging backup & recovery technologies for faster service times and additional optimization.
  • Provision and administer Avamar backup & recovery environment with Data Domains at backend.
  • Provide the operations support for current storage and backup configurations including OS, SAN, NAS, Dell EMC Data Domain infrastructure.
  • Day to day administration of Avamar and IBM Spectrum Protect/TSM enterprise backup & recovery infrastructure, and thorough understanding of Dell EMC Avamar solutions, NAS backups using NDMP and use of Data Protection Advisor (DPA) for reporting.
  • Integrated backup & recovery solutions for a large VMWare virtual infrastructure and VDI.
  • Prior experience on TSM For VE (VMWare) and TSM For Mail (Exchange & Notes).
  • Configuration of backup clients on UNIX & Windows servers.
  • Coordination with operations team(s) for the design, build, and maintenance of backup and recovery infrastructure solutions to support mission critical production environments.
  • Coordination with architecture services to ensure implementation of best practices for infrastructure governance, controls, and risk mitigations, architecture, engineering, production support, and service management.
  • Continually defines ways to increase customer satisfaction and deepen customer relationships.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of superior technical solutions. Work with governance, risk, and audit teams to support the controls, risk mitigation, and remediation.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in information technology.
  • Experience in championing change and effectively managing project/program implementation.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with team members and customers.
  • Strong infrastructure administration and engineering skills in data center backup, recovery, and archive, storage, and networking technologies.
  • BS degree in computer science or in a related field, master’s degree preferred.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of EMC VMAX SAN, NetApp NAS storage, and VMware SAN storage solutions and EMC Data Domain.
  • Replication design understanding of EMC SRDF for block storage. Snapmirror replication for NetApp, EMC Data domain, and VG8 NAS replication technologies for file-based storage solutions.
  • VMware SRM integration with EMC SRDF solutions is a plus.
  • Understanding of HA and DR concepts as applied to major infrastructure areas (compute, storage & network) is a desirable.
  • Prior experience in designing secure cloud & virtualized environments is a plus.
  • Good understanding of Brocade SAN fabrics.

Required Skills: Must Haves: Avamar system administration experience, experience with either TSM or IBM Spectrum protect, & Data domain experience. Schedule: Some flexibility required to accommodate after hours work, but this will flex throughout the pay period and won't be overtime.
