Embedded Software Manager Remote information

What does an embedded software manager do, especially in a remote setting?

An Embedded Software Manager oversees teams that design, develop, and maintain embedded software—software that is built into hardware devices such as automotive systems, medical devices, or consumer electronics. In a remote role, they coordinate distributed teams, manage project timelines, ensure software quality, and facilitate communication between engineers and other stakeholders. They are responsible for technical leadership, resource allocation, and often work closely with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration. Effective remote management also involves using collaboration tools and agile methodologies to keep projects on track.

How does an embedded software manager typically balance hands-on technical work with team leadership responsibilities in a remote setting?

As an Embedded Software Manager working remotely, you’ll often split your time between technical oversight—such as reviewing code, guiding architecture decisions, and solving complex issues—and leadership tasks like mentoring engineers, facilitating communication, and aligning projects with business goals. Effective managers establish clear communication channels and leverage collaboration tools to maintain team cohesion despite the distance. While you may still participate in some hands-on development, your primary focus will shift towards enabling your team’s success, removing obstacles, and ensuring timely project delivery. This balance requires strong organizational skills and proactive engagement with both technical and managerial aspects of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an embedded software manager remote, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Embedded Software Manager (Remote), you need a strong background in embedded systems development, programming (often in C/C++), and leadership experience, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as version control systems (e.g., Git), real-time operating systems, and project management platforms is essential, along with certifications like PMP or Agile Scrum. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills are crucial for managing distributed teams and ensuring project alignment. These competencies are vital for delivering high-quality embedded solutions efficiently while fostering collaboration and innovation in a remote work environment.

About the Role
FMG's compliance platform sits at the center of how tens of thousands of financial advisors - and some of the largest financial institutions in the country - stay within regulatory bounds while growing their business. It is a critical, high-stakes product that directly affects how advisors market themselves and how home offices manage supervisory obligations across their networks.
This role leads the product vision, strategy, and execution for that platform. You will own the roadmap for improving the compliance experience and effectiveness across our advisor and enterprise customer base - making the product faster, smarter, and more reliable for the people who depend on it every day.
You are equally comfortable prototyping alongside engineering as you are presenting a product strategy to internal and external executives. You do not separate strategy from execution - you own both, and you move fluidly between them.
What you will own:
  • The compliance product roadmap - setting priorities, sequencing work, and managing the product as a business
  • Designing and launching FMG's first external-facing compliance capability: API, SDK, or embedded widget that wealthtech partners route through
  • Engagement with enterprise and ecosystem partners to get the product live - onboarding design, integration coordination, and partner success
  • Cross-functional alignment across Engineering, GTM, and Compliance leadership - building real buy-in, not just meeting-room agreement
  • Validating market demand: customer discovery, competitive analysis, and business case development for platform bets
Compensation This position offers $150,000-$175,000 depending on skills, experience and qualifications.
Primary Responsibilities & Expectations
Domain depth. You have genuine fluency in financial services compliance - SEC Marketing Rule 206(4)-1, FINRA 2210, BD supervisory frameworks - and you've applied it to real product decisions, not just cited it in a slide. You understand how home offices think about approval workflows, how advisors experience compliance friction, and where the regulatory exposure actually lives.
Full-stack product execution. You've owned both strategy and delivery without a PO beneath you. You can run discovery, write specs, prototype ideas, partner with engineering through delivery, and own the feedback loop post-launch. You don't hand off and wait - you stay in the work.
Platform thinking. You know the difference between building a feature and building a platform. You've made - and defended - the call to expose a capability via API rather than bolt it onto a UI. You think about developers and partner integrations as first-class stakeholders, not an afterthought.
Builder orientation with AI tooling. You are comfortable using AI-assisted development tools - Claude Code, Cursor, Replit, or equivalent - to build working prototypes and MVPs. Not as a substitute for engineering partnership, but as a way to stay close to the product and move faster. You've built something - for work or on the side - using these tools, and you bring that fluency into how you collaborate with eng teams. You understand what an AI-native SDLC looks like: prompt-driven iteration, rapid prototype validation, and the judgment to know when a vibe-coded MVP is good enough to test versus when it needs to be properly engineered.
Business orientation. You think like a GM. You connect product decisions to retention, expansion, and revenue. You can build a business case, assess market opportunity, and take ownership of outcomes - not just output.
Enterprise and partner credibility. You've worked directly with enterprise compliance or legal stakeholders - not just sales and CS. You know how to build trust in that context and how to translate regulatory requirements into product decisions without losing the commercial thread.
Critical stakeholder ownership. You have owned and managed relationships with critical client and partner stakeholders - enterprise clients, key vendors, and internal executives. You present well, communicate clearly under scrutiny, and can face off with senior stakeholders on both sides of the table while keeping the relationship productive.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 7+ years in product management, with meaningful time in fintech, wealthtech, regtech, or a compliance-adjacent product area
  • Direct experience with financial services regulatory frameworks (SEC, FINRA, or equivalent) applied to product decisions - not just familiarity
  • Track record of owning both strategy and hands-on delivery in a senior IC or player-coach role - without a PO or delivery PM below you
  • Experience designing or launching an API, SDK, or platform-layer product intended for external partners or developers
  • Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) to build working prototypes or MVPs - personal projects count, and we'll ask to see or hear about what you built
  • Comfort operating in an AI-native SDLC: working alongside engineers who use AI tooling heavily, reviewing AI-generated code at a conceptual level, and using AI to accelerate discovery and prototyping
  • Strong written communication - you produce documents that drive decisions, not decks that summarize meetings

Nice to Have
  • Experience with broker-dealer or home office relationships - understanding how BDs evaluate and approve vendor tools
  • Background in compliance technology specifically: automated review workflows, content archiving, supervisory systems
  • Experience pricing and packaging a B2B SaaS product, including enterprise tier design
  • Prior work at a startup or in a PE-backed company where velocity and capital efficiency shaped roadmap decisions
Who Thrives in this Role
You are energized by owning a product area end-to-end - from customer discovery through delivery and commercial outcome. You have led programs without a dedicated PO or delivery PM below you and found that energizing, not frustrating. You are comfortable sitting in ambiguity, making a call, and being accountable for it. And you see compliance not as a constraint to manage around, but as the foundation a great product is built on.
At FMG, we believe in the wholehearted acceptance of each other regardless of our differences. We strive to foster an environment that allows everyone to contribute to our mission in their unique ways. With the belief that diversity propels innovation, we are continually finding ways to cultivate a commitment to inclusion in our employees, services, and products, as well as in the communities in which we live and work.
We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to providing employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, creed, color, gender, religion, marital status, domestic partner status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, pregnancy, military or veteran status, and genetic information. If you require accommodation to complete the application or interview process, please contact [email protected].
