    Job Description

    The Product Engineer I is an essential member of the Product Engineering Team. The primary objective of this role is to lead Cornerstone Building Brand's focus on innovation and problem solving for the building industry.  The Product Engineer works directly with window and door products. This role will focus on creative ways to meet ever-changing customer requirements, with a primary concentration on new product development and improved performance.  In addition, the Product Engineer I will discover, lead, and implement revenue generating and cost savings initiatives.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Designs, prototypes, certifies, and launches new products.
    • Analyzes current products to ensure specifications are maintained and current.  
    • Reviews, analyzes, and determines applicability and feasibility of newly proposed products and deigns.
    • Monitors products to ensure compliance with industry certification program standards (AAMA, WDMA, NAMI, CSA, NFRC, and IGMA).
    • Creates and reviews detailed drawings, schematics, prototypes, and data rich reports for coordination with other business teams.
    • Manages Engineering Change Orders and Non-Standard Product Requests
    • Embraces the role of Product Champion and liaises as the technical lead for all projects related to their assigned product lines.
    • Visits manufacturing facilities to assist in new product launches, production support, internal/external audits.
    • Participates in kaizen and voice-of-customer exercises.
    • Visits construction sites to assist in customer service, field testing, and service department support. Occasional homeowner contact may be required.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required (Mechanical Engineering preferred).
    • 2 plus years of relevant engineering work preferred.
    • Experience in new product development preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, work in teams, and complete projects.
    • Experience in fenestration and/or construction will be given priority consideration.
    • Must be able to handle multiple competing demands.
    • Must demonstrate an understanding of manufacturing processes, especially as they relate to building products and the construction industry. 
    • Must possess the ability to make sound decisions, utilizing industry knowledge.
    • Must maintain strong communication lines with cross functional teams including engineering, sales, service, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers. 
    • Must possess the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in layman's terms.
    • Must have the ability to proactively identify changes in building codes, and trends in customer specifications to stay ahead of industry demands.
    • Must demonstrate a strong desire to continuously improve company products and systems.
    • Must have exceptional overall computer aptitude, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and 3D modeling software. ERP/MRP software familiarity is preferred.
    • Must have strong experience, and skill, in using hand and machine tools.
    • Up to 15% Travel required 
    Additional Information

    The US base salary range for this full-time position is $70,000-$80,000 + medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
