Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on the design and development of embedded Linux software for connected vehicle systems, including telematics, edge computing, remote diagnostics, over-the-air updates, video streaming, and vehicle network integration. You will serve as the technical lead for a team of embedded engineers, guiding architecture, best practices, and implementation to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. You will work hands-on with large mobile equipment in real-world environments and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure predictable and high-quality product releases.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded Linux software for connected vehicle systems, including telematics, edge computing, remote diagnostics, over-the-air updates, video streaming, and vehicle network integration.
  • Serve as the technical lead for a team of embedded engineers, providing architectural direction and defining software design patterns and best practices.
  • Mentor and support team members by reviewing designs and code, sharing knowledge, and fostering a culture of high-quality engineering.
  • Ensure that embedded software solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with overall product architecture and business requirements.
  • Work hands-on with large mobile equipment to test, troubleshoot, validate, and optimize embedded software performance in real-world operating conditions.
  • Support software testing and validation in manufacturing environments and customer deployments, diagnosing issues and driving effective resolutions.
  • Collaborate closely with embedded, cloud, and front-end engineering teams to deliver integrated, end-to-end product solutions.
  • Drive cross-functional product delivery by supporting Agile development processes, contributing to planning, and ensuring predictable release execution.
  • Identify and remove technical roadblocks that may impede development progress, and proactively address risks and issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development workflows, tools, and processes within the embedded engineering team.

Essential Skills

  • 8+ years of experience developing embedded software for complex, mobile systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ for embedded software development.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded Linux, including development, integration, and optimization.
  • 5+ years of experience with networking concepts relevant to connected vehicle and telematics systems.
  • Experience working with CAN bus and fleet-related communication or control systems.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and debug embedded software in real-world hardware environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or technically guiding embedded engineering efforts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with telematics systems and connected vehicle technologies.
  • Familiarity with edge computing architectures and remote diagnostics solutions.
  • Exposure to over-the-air update mechanisms and secure software update strategies.
  • Experience with video streaming in embedded or connected systems.
  • Knowledge of Rust for embedded or systems programming.
  • Experience working with large mobile equipment or similar industrial hardware platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with cloud and front-end teams on integrated solutions.
  • Exposure to Agile development methodologies and cross-functional product delivery.

Work Environment

You will work in a collaborative engineering environment that brings together embedded, cloud, and front-end teams to deliver connected vehicle solutions. The role involves hands-on work with large mobile equipment in real-world operating conditions, manufacturing environments, and customer deployments, requiring comfort with on-site testing, troubleshooting, and validation.
