Embedded Finance information

What is embedded finance?

Embedded finance refers to the integration of financial services such as payments, lending, insurance, or investments into non-financial platforms or products. This means that companies outside of traditional banking can offer financial services directly to their customers through their own apps or websites. Examples include ride-sharing apps that offer in-app payments, e-commerce sites providing 'buy now, pay later' options, or retail brands offering branded credit cards. Embedded finance streamlines the customer experience by making financial transactions seamless and convenient within everyday digital interactions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an embedded finance professional?

To thrive in Embedded Finance, you need a strong background in finance, fintech, and software development, often supported by degrees in finance, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with APIs, payment processing platforms, compliance systems, and certifications such as CFA or relevant fintech credentials is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for integrating financial solutions across industries. These competencies are crucial to ensure secure, innovative, and seamless financial services within non-financial platforms.

What are some common challenges professionals face when working in embedded finance roles?

Professionals in Embedded Finance often navigate challenges such as integrating financial services seamlessly into non-financial platforms, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and maintaining robust data security. Collaboration across teams—like product, engineering, and compliance—is essential to deliver a smooth user experience while adhering to legal standards. Staying current with evolving fintech trends and regulatory changes is also key, as these can significantly impact product development and timelines.

Job description

Overview
Company Overview

Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.

Getting paid faster is one of small business owners’ most critical problems. Cash flow challenges are cited as a cause for 82% of small business failures, and this remains an unsolved problem despite rapid innovation in fintech. QB Payments is core to solving it: we currently process $175B of the $2T in invoices sent across the QuickBooks platform, having grown at a 40% CAGR since our 2017 platform investment.

Job Overview

FY27 is a pivotal year for QB Payments. We’re pursuing several major initiatives to accelerate Total Payment Volume and deepen our role in how small businesses get paid. At the same time, the broader payments landscape is shifting quickly — card networks, acquirers, fintechs, frontier LLM’s are racing to define agentic commerce, stablecoin rails, and embedded finance, all of which intersect directly with QuickBooks’ own ambitions.

We are looking for a Head of Payments Partnerships to lead this agenda. This position requires strong strategic problem-solving and communication skills, the ability to influence and develop productive partnerships at all levels of the organization, and a strong understanding of Intuit’s mission and values. This is a role with broad exposure to senior leaders across GBSG and the Services Segment.

You will lead a team, reporting to the Director of Business Development, and work closely with our Payments leadership, Product, Commercial, Engineering, Risk, and Ops teams to address our customers’ AR problems and accelerate growth.

The Opportunity

QB Payments sits at the center of Intuit’s Center of Money strategy, and partnerships are a primary lever for both defending and extending our position. You will own the full partner portfolio across several active and emerging fronts:

•       Payment ecosystem partners — card networks, acquirers, wallets, and alternative payment methods that expand acceptance, reduce settlement costs, and improve approval rates

•       Embedded finance and BNPL — building on the Affirm partnership model to expand financing options at checkout and improve conversion for higher-ticket transactions

•       AI and agentic commerce — positioning QB Payments and QBO as the system of record inside emerging agent-mediated transaction flows (e.g., MPP/ACP-style protocols), as card networks, Stripe, and others race to define this space

•       Ecosystem integration partners — working with AP and adjacent software providers to remove seams across the customer's broader tech stack, ensuring a seamless payments experience regardless of which tools a QB business uses to run its operations

Responsibilities

Own the Partnership Lifecycle

•       Lead full-cycle business development for our payments business, QB Payments

•       Build and manage a pipeline of high-priority partnership opportunities with rigor and velocity

•       Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with key partner counterparts

•       Oversee ongoing partner management, strengthening relationships with key payment partners and resolving escalations with the appropriate internal teams

Set and Influence Strategy

•       Define the multi-year partnership strategy for the payments business, including prioritization frameworks, partner segmentation, and go-to-market models

•       Drive the strategy and prioritization of key partnership initiatives, including structuring and negotiating new opportunities

•       Develop clear points of view on build vs. buy vs. partner decisions, and bring well-structured recommendations to Payments and GBSG leadership

•       Proactively identify whitespace opportunities at the intersection of Intuit’s SMB and Mid-Market customer base, data assets, financial products, and partner distribution capabilities

•       Act as a subject matter expert on payment trends, rules, and regulations, sharing insights with internal stakeholders and tracking fast-moving developments across agentic commerce, stablecoin infrastructure, and embedded finance

Drive Cross-Functional Execution

•       Partner closely with Product to translate partnership requirements into roadmap inputs, supporting the development and rollout of new payment products and capabilities

•       Collaborate with Risk and Finance to structure deals that are commercially sound, risk-policy aligned, and poised for accelerated growth

•       Work with Marketing to develop co-marketing and co-distribution playbooks, and elevate QB Payments’ influence in the ecosystem through joint product development and strategic initiatives

•       Coordinate with Legal and Compliance on deal structuring, data-sharing frameworks, and regulatory considerations

•       Support Quarterly Business Reviews with key merchants by providing insights on payment partnerships and developments

Operate as a Senior Leader

•       Lead and develop a team responsible for managing and expanding our payment partnerships, with a proven ability to mentor and build high-performing talent

•       Represent the Payments BD function in cross-GBSG forums, including the QB Product Partnerships annual planning process

•       Foster strong cross-functional collaboration across global teams including Product, Engineering, and Commercial

•       Deliver executive-ready outputs: one-pagers, strategy briefs, and board-quality narratives that clearly articulate opportunity, tradeoffs, and path to value

Qualifications

Experience

•       10+ years of experience managing partnerships, business development, or strategic accounts, preferably within payments, fintech, or financial services

•       Demonstrated track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing complex, multi-party partnership agreements — not just managing existing relationships

•       Experience negotiating with payments ecosystem partners, including card networks, acquirers, wallets, payment methods, fintechs, risk tech, and gateways

•       Background in payments, financial services, or fintech strongly preferred; experience with payfac business models a plus

•       Prior experience working within or alongside platform companies (payments, payroll, banking, SaaS) where partnerships are a core growth lever is highly valued

Leadership & Operating Skillset

•       Proven ability to drive a full BD operating system: pipeline discipline, deal velocity, stakeholder management, and rigorous commercial analysis

•       Strong executive presence; can represent Intuit credibly at C-suite and VP levels with external partners

•       Comfortable working across commercial, product, and technical discussions, and operating in global, cross-functional environments

•       Comfortable operating with urgency, competing priorities, and frequent context-switching between strategic and tactical work

Strategic & Analytical Strength

•       Strong structured problem-solving skills; able to frame ambiguous opportunities as clear choices with defined tradeoffs

•       Commercially minded, with experience structuring partnerships and negotiating agreements

•       Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and recommendations

•       Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem and emerging industry trends

Communication

•       Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally

•       Executive-level written and verbal communication skills; able to build conviction with senior leaders through clear, well-structured narratives

•       Collaborative by default; builds trust across functions and does not treat BD as a siloed function

•       Proven track record of delivering results and driving complex initiatives
