What is an email project manager?

Email Project Managers are professionals responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing email marketing campaigns for organizations. They coordinate with different teams, such as designers, copywriters, and marketing strategists, to ensure that email campaigns are delivered on time and meet business objectives. Their role includes managing project timelines, tracking performance metrics, and ensuring compliance with email marketing regulations. Email Project Managers also analyze campaign results to optimize future communications and improve overall effectiveness.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an email project manager?

To thrive as an Email Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, email marketing knowledge, and familiarity with campaign strategy, typically supported by a degree in marketing or communications. Proficiency in email marketing platforms (like Mailchimp or Salesforce Marketing Cloud), analytics tools, and sometimes certification in project management (PMP or similar) are commonly required. Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving abilities help you collaborate with diverse teams and adapt to changing priorities. These skills ensure successful, timely execution of email campaigns that achieve business objectives and maximize customer engagement.

How does an email project manager typically collaborate with other departments during a campaign launch?

An Email Project Manager works closely with marketing, design, content, and IT teams to ensure each campaign aligns with brand standards and technical requirements. This role often involves coordinating timelines, gathering assets, and facilitating feedback to keep projects on track. Regular meetings and clear communication are key, as the Email Project Manager acts as a bridge between creative and technical staff to deliver effective email campaigns. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills help ensure all stakeholders are aligned and deadlines are met.

Are email project managers still in demand?

Email project managers are still in demand as organizations continue to rely on email marketing and communication campaigns. They need skills in project management tools, data analysis, and marketing platforms to effectively coordinate campaigns and meet business goals.

Can I get a remote job as an email project manager?

Email project managers can often work remotely, especially as many companies adopt flexible work arrangements. Success in remote roles typically requires strong communication skills, proficiency with project management tools, and the ability to coordinate with distributed teams.

Job description

The Marketing Project Manager plays a key role in keeping Thompson Creek's marketing initiatives organized, on track, and moving successfully from concept through launch. This position owns the day-to-day project management of marketing campaigns and initiatives across digital, social, email, direct mail, broadcast TV, video, and web.

Working closely with the Marketing Director and Senior Program Manager, you'll bring structure and visibility to a busy marketing portfolio, coordinate internal teams and external partners, manage campaign QA and approvals, and help ensure projects launch on time and meet established standards. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

What You'll Do
  • Manage the marketing department's portfolio of active projects and upcoming initiatives, including priorities, milestones, timelines, dependencies, and potential risks.
  • Own marketing campaigns from creation through QA, approval, launch, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Partner with the Marketing Director to turn marketing strategy and priorities into clear, actionable projects and timelines.
  • Maintain the marketing content calendar across the company blog, social media, and email campaigns.
  • Coordinate the development and production of digital and print creative, video advertising, direct mail, and other marketing materials.
  • Work closely with graphic designers, media partners, production vendors, and other external partners to keep projects on schedule.
  • Manage campaign review and approval processes, ensuring required QA and approvals are completed before launch.
  • Coordinate landing page and website updates and maintain visibility into requested and completed changes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on advertising initiatives across Google, Bing, Meta, direct mail, and broadcast TV.
  • Monitor campaign performance and help identify opportunities to improve current and future campaigns.
  • Lead marketing-related software implementations supporting lead and customer communications, coordinating configuration, testing, and rollout with internal teams and vendors.
  • Develop launch plans for new marketing initiatives, track readiness and milestones, and identify potential issues before they impact launch dates.
  • Maintain centralized project tracking and provide clear visibility into project status, priorities, risks, and progress.
  • Coordinate across Marketing, Customer Support, Technology, and other teams to keep initiatives moving forward.
