POSITION PURPOSE:

Manages and controls daily operations of security, Fire and Intercom (FIRECOM), locks, and elevator shops. Responsible for continuously evaluating and improving processes for daily operations and projects. Ensures work and operations are in compliance with Wake County Public School System's (WCPSS) standards, procedures, and processes. Coordinates with school administrators and other staff, as required, to execute maintenance work and minimize disruption to school operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word and Excel; Google Apps; Database software;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Effective organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to be proactive and apply technical knowledge to improve deliverables, providing attention to detail to minimize errors;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Five years of demonstrated experience with security systems, fire alarms, communications equipment, locksmithing, or elevator systems, including maintenance and design reviews;
  • Three years of experience leading work teams;
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Low voltage electrical license or the necessary experience to obtain one.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages and provides leadership to the security shop, communications shop, lock shop, and elevator shop staff.
  • Manages work orders, contracts, project cost estimates, feasibility studies, long-range planning, service contracts, and provides customer interface for assigned systems.
  • Evaluates the infrastructure and building systems by assessing the technical condition, evaluating the repair, or replacement options, and providing future planning, programming of repairs, and improvements.
  • Reviews and inspects capital improvement projects related to security, life safety, locks, and elevators with respect to budget, maintainability, reliability, and consistency with the WCPSS design guidelines.
  • Supports preventive maintenance programs through development, annual assessments, and ensuring the workforce is used in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and government laws and regulations, as required. Ensures WCPSS procedure and policy compliance and application of sound business principles.
  • Maintains technical records, files, and equipment for assigned areas.
  • Ensures staff adheres to district policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
