An elevator inspector works to ensure that elevators are operating safely. In this career, you inspect them on occasion to make sure that all of the parts are working up to the standards necessary for optimal safety. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Office of the State Building Inspector this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the inspection of lifting devices for compliance with state laws, codes and regulations.\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
\r\n Knowledge of\r\n \r\n standard methods and materials used in construction and operation of lifting devices;\r\n signal systems, installation drawings and wiring diagrams;\r\n relevant state laws, regulations and various engineering and building codes;\r\n inspection and investigation methods and techniques;\r\n electrical welding and building disciplines;\r\n and ability to operate microprocessor control equipment and all other relevant technical devices affecting and controlling operation of lifting devices;\r\n \r\n \r\n Skills\r\n \r\n interpersonal skills;\r\n oral and written communication skills;\r\n \r\n \r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n read technical drawings, designs and specifications;\r\n utilize computer software.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Incumbents in this class must possess at the time of employment and maintain during employment a license as an Unlimited Elevator Journeyperson from the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.\r\n
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\n Experience with electrical, fire alarm and building codes.\r\n Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook.\r\n Experience inspecting, adjusting and maintaining installed freight and passenger elevators and escalators.\r\n Experience using smart phone and other mobile devices for reporting.\r\n Experience providing oral and written instructions.\r\n\r\n\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
\r\n\r\n Incumbents in this class will be required to travel.\r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.\r\n\r\n\r\n
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class will be required to climb in and onto elevator cars and may risk danger of injury from working with electrical wiring and may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions.
