The Visual Arts team exists to support the mission of Christ's Church of the Valley by creating compelling visual stories that inspire people to take their next step toward Christ.

The Senior Filmmaker is a highly creative storyteller and visual strategist responsible for shaping the creative vision and execution of video content across the church. This individual possesses exceptional creative instincts, a refined visual taste, and a passion for producing meaningful work that connects with people.

This role requires someone who thinks beyond the camera—someone who actively studies culture, storytelling, filmmaking, and emerging creative trends to continually elevate their craft. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable developing concepts, directing talent, filming, editing, designing motion graphics, and delivering polished final products. They are a self-starter who takes ownership of projects from concept through completion and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as a senior creative voice on the Visual Arts team, partnering with the Marketing & Visual Arts Sr. Director and Team Leads to develop compelling creative concepts that support ministry objectives.
  • Owns projects from initial idea through final delivery, proactively managing every stage of the creative process including concept development, scripting, storyboarding, planning, production, post-production, and final delivery.
  • Produces visually compelling content with excellence in cinematography, lighting, composition, audio capture, directing, and production design.
  • Creates polished, engaging edits utilizing advanced color grading, sound design, pacing, motion graphics, and visual effects to tell stories with clarity and emotional impact.
  • Demonstrates a deep curiosity for storytelling, filmmaking, design, and culture by continually learning from industry-leading creators, films, documentaries, digital content, and emerging creative trends.
  • Brings strong creative instincts and a high standard of visual excellence, consistently elevating the quality of content through thoughtful creative decisions and attention to detail.
  • Functions as a highly resourceful producer who can independently solve creative challenges, adapt to changing production needs, and maximize available resources to deliver exceptional results.
  • Thrives in both highly planned productions and fast-paced "run-and-gun" environments, maintaining excellence regardless of project scale or available resources.
  • Collaborates closely with ministry leaders and teammates to understand communication goals while contributing fresh creative ideas that strengthen the overall vision.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Film, Media Production, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience with at least five years in high-level video production.
  • Demonstrated portfolio showing excellence in storytelling, cinematography, editing, and creative execution across a variety of projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in:
    • DaVinci Resolve for editing and color grading.
    • Adobe After Effects for motion graphics and visual effects.
    • Adobe Photoshop as it relates to video production workflows.
  • Strong understanding of audio production and sound design for professional video.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce projects from concept through delivery while maintaining a consistently high creative standard.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Comfortable taking initiative, making creative decisions, and functioning as both filmmaker and producer when needed.
