What you bring to the table
The Relief Supervisor will cover for Production Supervisors in their absence and support the Production Manager and Superintendents in overseeing production in the plant. This individual will work with the Production Supervisors to help support operations as needed. Reports directly to the Production Manager, but may also receive work directions or assignments from other management personnel as required by company needs. This position will also assist with training for new supervisors and will be assigned special projects related to plant productivity and efficiency.
This position will be based on day shift, but will be tasked with covering Supervisor shifts as needed on a 12 hour shift from either 5 AM - 5 PM or 5 PM - 5 AM on a rotational schedule.
What you'll do as a Relief Supervisor
  • Demonstrates an unwavering commitment to Lesaffre's safety-first culture by strictly following all safety protocols and participating in required safety programs
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel.
  • Oversee activities of Process and Drying Operators.
  • Ensure operators complete control sheets for each process.
  • Cover open Production Supervisor shifts as needed and perform required tasks of a Production Supervisor.
  • Maintain inventory and order specific materials for the production plant.
  • Assist the production superintendents with inventory of staged production materials to ensure the plant is utilizing lot numbers correctly and respecting FIFO.
  • Print logs and organize records to ensure correct documentation and storage.
  • Create and maintain specific standard operation procedures and logs.
  • Participate in a supporting role to find the resolution of process and quality issues in the plant. This may require creation of procedures, troubleshooting of equipment, and other related tasks.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of new procedures and processes.
  • Identify training deficits and assist the Production Superintendents in making appropriate corrections.
  • Assist the Production Superintendents to manage SAP activities. This includes but is not limited to month end, SAP batching, lot reconciliation, and other related activities.
  • Assist the Production Superintendents in following up with training, procedures, knowledge, and other areas to ensure continuity across the shifts.
  • Understand and enforce Safety, GMP, and HACCP programs.
  • Update production schedules as needed.
  • Assist the Superintendent in following up with training, procedures, knowledge, and other areas to ensure continuity across the shifts.
  • Assist with annual reviews and discipline action upon the hourly production operators
  • Approve or deny vacation requests and maintain an employee schedule for the production team.
  • Other duties as assigned depending on operational needs.

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Production Management preferred or a minimum of 2 to 3 years experience as a supervisor for a food-processing manufacturer.
  • Basic math, chemistry, and microbiology knowledge is required to work under minimal supervision and assess situations, weigh alternatives and take decisive, prudent courses of action.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment and production department sanitation.
  • Requires ability to recognize and analyze production problems and identify possible causes.
  • Requires the ability to supervise multiple people and prioritize various duties and to ensure production of consistent, quality product.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks and delegate to others while following through to ensure completion of assignments.
  • Superior communication and "customer" service skills are required in relationships with coworkers, management, and other departments within the company.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to dry and dusty and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold or extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to be forklift certified required.
