Job description

About This Role:
As the Head of Commercial Field Excellence, you will lead multiple teams dedicated to the strategic alignment, planning, training, and effectiveness of Commercial Excellence across Biogen's North America Portfolio. Your role will be crucial in overseeing enterprise CRM, field systems, and data enablement, and supporting Medical field teams. You will drive the enablement and effectiveness of over 800 field employees across diverse therapeutic areas, such as Neurology, Specialty, Rare Disease, and newly emerging areas like Lupus and Kidney. Acting as a key partner to Therapeutic Area Heads and Field Heads, you will enhance field effectiveness and ensure alignment with Biogen's commercial priorities. This role integrates operational rigor and sales strategy, contributing directly to revenue growth and maintaining Biogen's competitive edge in the industry. You will report to the Head of Business Intelligence & Operations (BIO) and collaborate with senior leaders across Biogen's North American portfolio.

What You'll Do:

  • Drive field team effectiveness by setting strategic direction and operational frameworks.
  • Lead Commercial Learning & Development, ensuring alignment with therapeutic area and brand strategies.
  • Integrate sales strategy by partnering with senior Commercial leaders for optimal call planning and resource deployment.
  • Oversee commercial field operations excellence, including HCP call plan design, field technology platforms, and incentive compensation.
  • Partner with BI&O Decision Sciences to analyze commercial field execution data.
  • Lead strategic planning for field enablement platforms, ensuring scalability and innovation.
  • Manage IC budgets and provide leadership decision support on plan adjustments.
  • Represent US BIO perspective in leadership forums and serve as a primary point of contact.
  • Drive cross-functional transformation initiatives and elevate field execution through planning frameworks and technology roadmaps.
  • Coach and develop talent within Field Ops and Commercial Learning organizations.

You are a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of pharmaceutical commercial operations and a passion for driving field effectiveness. Your leadership skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally make you a key influencer within the organization. Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or relevant scientific/business discipline) highly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in bio/pharmaceutical commercial operations, sales excellence, or analytics, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical/biotech commercial strategy drivers and compliance requirements.
  • Proven expertise in CRM/SFA platforms, particularly Veeva, and sales reporting and analytics.
  • Demonstrated leadership in sales incentive compensation design and governance.
  • Strong record of integrating sales strategy and delivering field force growth.
  • Ability to lead change management and organizational transformation in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to operate effectively at senior leadership levels.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in Medical Affairs planning and tactical execution of medical field personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead Commercial Learning & Development functions.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $260,000.00-$367,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
