Job description

Position Purpose:

The Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing, modifying, and maintaining secure, reliable, user-friendly websites and applications across the ministry's diverse digital ecosystem. This includes both traditional WordPress sites (primarily using Elementor Pro) and headless WordPress sites with React frontends. The ideal candidate will be proficient in PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React, with a proven ability to deliver visually appealing, secure, performant, and mobile-responsive interfaces. This position requires the applicant to be a self-starter who is self-directed, personable, an excellent communicator, and can work independently and as a member of a team. This individual must be able to take ownership of tasks assigned and work within the scope of project assignments, while meeting expected deadlines and communicating progress to team members, their manager, and key project stakeholders.

Essential Duties:

  • Design, develop, evaluate, enhance, test, and maintain WordPress sites using MySQL databases, and WordPress plugins/themes on a cloud-hosted LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack
  • Build and maintain React-based frontends for headless WordPress sites, integrating REST or GraphQL APIs, CDNs, etc., as required
  • Optimize standardization, performance, scalability, and security across sites
  • Perform other related tasks as needed

  • Ability to work with a team, while also being a self-starter with the ability to self-direct
  • Should demonstrate humility, honesty, transparency, and have a drive to constantly improve
  • Working knowledge (or demonstrated aptitude to learn) in the following areas:
    • WordPress CMS, CRM, DB, SEO, APIs, Security, and design plugins.
    • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, along with web development standards, best practices, including Mobile First, Responsiveness, Scalability, Performance, etc.
    • Page and site optimization techniques for media content, analytics, and site flows.

Requirements:

  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Must sign the Statement of Faith
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent preferred
  • A Charis Bible College graduate is preferred
  • Must pass all required checks.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of professional experience in website development, management, design, and/or support across a variety of stacks
  • Demonstrated experience coding in React, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and database languages like SQL
  • Proficiency working with WordPress plugins (e.g., WooCommerce, Wordfence, Jetpack, WP Super Cache, Elementor Pro, etc.), preferred experience and ability to develop custom plugins and themes
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience
