Job Description / Essential Elements:
SITE LITERACY/RESOURCE TEACHER - K-6
GENERAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Under the direct supervision of the site administrator, the site literacy position will be responsible to provide leadership to K-6 teachers in the areas of a comprehensive core and a balanced literacy instructional program. It will provide assistance to all teachers, including new teachers, in the areas of curriculum, effective classroom management, and effective student/teacher/parent communication. This will also include a coaching role to assist, support, and guide K-6 teachers in the implementation of the District's approved instructional program. The resource teacher will work with the District Elementary Curriculum Coordinator to assure that the student/teacher needs are met to facilitate the implementation of the literacy program.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in the development, implementation and coordination of the school's site literacy program as well as the literacy assessment component.
2. Helps with the development and dissemination of curriculum materials by bringing these materials to the attention of principals and teachers and by sharing comments of users of these materials.
3. Assists teachers in developing effective teaching techniques and efficient classroom management by encouraging their attendance at demonstrations, workshops, and professional conferences.
4. Serves as a resource person to other teachers by preparing displays or special materials and by reviewing current research relating to teaching methods, needs of learners, societal objectives, and subject matter content.
5. Provide coaching and on-going support, assistance and guidance to K-6 teachers through demonstrations, observation and feedback sessions, and reflective thinking discussions with teachers as they implement a balanced reading program.
6. Will collaborate with other site Literacy Teachers, District Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, the Director of Curriculum Development, and the Director of State and Federal Programs, etc.; and participate in literacy related committees as needed.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Credential: California Standard Teaching Credential and authorization for services to English Learners
2. Experience: Preferred: Five years of successful teaching experience
3. Education: Bachelor of Arts and/or Masters of Education or Curriculum
4. Personal Qualities: Ability to work with people, ability to train other certificated staff, knowledge of curriculum, etc.
