Job description

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Power Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Engineering Team in San Carlos, CA. The Power Electronics Manufacturing Engineer will participate in new product introduction and ramp-up of Joby aircraft powertrains through the implementation of manufacturing equipment and new processes, and working closely with cross-functional teams. This individual must be organized and self-driven, with an understanding of manufacturing scale-up, mechanical & electrical fundamentals, equipment, and quality systems. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the Power Electronics Manufacturing Engineer will see their ideas influence many key areas at Joby Aviation due to the fast-paced environment.


  • Partner with Design Engineering to develop and implement manufacturing processes for the product development phase.
  • Design, build, and implement equipment and processes for the assembly, test, and validation of hardware from the prototype stage through volume production.
  • Participate in design reviews during all phases of product development.
  • Drive cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing quality, throughput, and ergonomics.
  • Lead the equipment selection and procurement process for advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Author and release manufacturing instructions and process documentation to ensure flawless builds.

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with 2+ years of experience, or M.S. with 1+ year.
  • Solid foundation in power electronics principles and manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically with power electronics hardware.
  • Familiarity with PCB and PCBA manufacturing processes.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to solve complex technical challenges in a cross-functional environment.
  • Proficient in GD&T.
  • Familiarity with DFM and DFA principles.

  • Experience in manufacturing quality systems such as IATF 16949 or equivalent.
  • Practical knowledge of IPC-610 standards.
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing or high-volume electronic assembly equipment.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $98,400 - $164,700/yr.  The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
