CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electronics Engineering, often with management trainingBachelor's or Master's in Electronics Engineering
Work EnvironmentOversees teams, manages projects, strategic planningDesigns, develops, tests electronic systems and components
ResponsibilitiesLeadership, project management, resource allocationTechnical design, testing, troubleshooting

The Electronics Engineering Manager focuses on leading teams and managing projects, while the Electronics Engineer concentrates on technical design and development. Both roles require strong engineering credentials, but the manager's role emphasizes leadership and strategic oversight.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electronics engineering manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electronics Engineering Manager, you need a solid background in electronics engineering, project management, and typically a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering. Familiarity with design tools like Altium Designer or OrCAD, project management software, and certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma are highly valued. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help motivate teams and bridge technical and business goals. These capabilities ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high technical standards in a rapidly evolving field.

What does an electronics engineering manager do?

An Electronics Engineering Manager oversees teams of engineers who design, develop, and test electronic systems and components. They coordinate project timelines, allocate resources, and ensure that design and production meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, they collaborate with other departments, mentor engineering staff, and stay updated on the latest technological advancements to drive innovation within their organization.

How does an electronics engineering manager typically balance technical responsibilities with team leadership duties?

As an Electronics Engineering Manager, you'll often juggle hands-on technical oversight with people management. This means not only guiding the design and development of electronic systems but also mentoring engineers, coordinating project timelines, and facilitating cross-functional collaboration. Balancing these aspects requires strong organizational skills and the ability to delegate effectively while staying technically engaged. Many managers participate in design reviews, set engineering standards, and ensure team members have the resources and support needed to succeed.

Location: Doral, FL

Work Model: 100% on-site (this role requires regular presence on the production floor and in the lab)

Department: Engineering & Operations Employment

Type: Full-Time

Reports To: CEO Direct Reports: This role does not initially have direct reports. It drives results through cross-functional coordination, data, influence, and execution discipline.

Travel Requirements: Limited travel (<5%) may be required for customer visits, supplier visits, audits, or project-related meetings.

Compensation: $90,000–$110,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Position Summary

We are seeking a results-driven Engineering & Production Operations Manager to improve efficiency, throughput, and on-time delivery across our engineering and manufacturing organization.

This is a high-visibility, cross-functional role that partners closely with the CTO, Production Manager, and Business Development Manager, and reports to the CEO on operational performance and improvement initiatives.

You will define the KPIs that measure performance, identify bottlenecks across projects, and drive improvements that make delivery faster, more predictable, and more profitable. We have strong technical leadership and a pipeline of secured projects — your role is to make the system run better.

About the Role

A growing technology and manufacturing company specializing in bidirectional power converters for rail, defense microgrids, and grid-scale energy storage is seeking an Engineering & Production Operations Manager who can see across the whole operation — identifying inefficiencies and driving improvements across engineering and production.

This is not a role that replaces technical leadership. Engineering is led by the CTO and discipline leads, and production is led by the Production Manager. Your role is to create visibility, define performance metrics, identify what is slowing execution down, and help leadership drive corrective action.

What You'll Do

  • Define and own the KPI framework — which doesn't yet exist — that drives on-time delivery, cost efficiency, and product quality.
  • Build dashboards and reporting cadences that give leadership clear visibility into engineering, production, quality, and project performance.
  • Coordinate across engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, electronics, embedded/firmware, PCB, systems integration, test, production, procurement, quality, and sales.
  • Align engineering and production schedules to support realistic commitments and predictable delivery.
  • Spot bottlenecks, delays, resource conflicts, and quality issues early, reducing delays and improving throughput.
  • Lead root-cause analysis on recurring delays, rework, and quality issues, and drive corrective actions to closure with the right owners.
  • Support continuous-improvement initiatives that reduce cycle time, improve first-pass yield, reduce rework, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Track projects and program execution against schedule, budget, scope, and delivery commitments.
  • Prepare clear, data-backed updates for executive leadership on operational performance, risks, priorities, and recommended actions.

Preferred Experience

  • Power electronics, industrial manufacturing, transportation/rail, energy, or high-power electrical equipment.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience.
  • PMP or equivalent project/program management experience.
  • ERP/MRP system experience.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality-management systems.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, operations, or program execution, with a strong track record of improving efficiency and delivery performance.
  • Proven ability to drive results across teams through data, influence, credibility, and follow-through — not just authority.
  • Strong understanding of both engineering project execution and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience defining KPIs, building dashboards, and using metrics to drive better business and operational decisions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior technical leadership, production teams, and shop-floor personnel.
  • Hands-on, accountable, results-oriented operating style.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.
