What is an Electron JS job?

An Electron JS job involves developing cross-platform desktop applications using Electron, a framework that allows web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create native apps. Developers in this role typically work on building, maintaining, and optimizing Electron-based applications, ensuring performance and security. They may also integrate native system functionalities, debug platform-specific issues, and collaborate with designers and backend engineers to deliver a seamless user experience.

What are some typical challenges faced when developing desktop applications with Electron JS?

Electron JS developers often encounter challenges such as optimizing application performance, managing large-scale memory usage, and ensuring seamless cross-platform compatibility across Windows, macOS, and Linux. Security is another significant focus area, as desktop apps can have access to sensitive system resources, requiring best practices to prevent vulnerabilities. Collaboration with UI/UX designers and backend developers is common, ensuring the application is both visually appealing and functionally robust. Tackling these challenges helps developers deliver reliable products and build strong skills valued in the desktop app development field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Electron JS position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electron JS Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and experience with Node.js, along with a solid grasp of Electron's architecture for building cross-platform desktop applications. Familiarity with tools such as Git, npm, debugging utilities, and optional certifications in JavaScript or full-stack development can be highly beneficial. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and collaborative communication abilities help developers excel in cross-functional teams. These technical and interpersonal abilities are crucial for delivering stable, user-friendly desktop applications that meet both user and business needs.

Job description

About Circleback
Circleback is building the source of truth for everything said at a company-starting with best-in-class AI meeting notes, action items, and search.
Every company runs on conversations - meetings, calls, emails - but almost none of that context is usable after the fact. We're building the platform that captures, organizes, and acts on all of it, so teams can actually use what they know.
We're a small team backed by Y Combinator. Profitable, growing virally, and thousands of paying customers including PostHog, Browserbase, Gumloop, and more.
Why join
  • We ship fast with a high bar for quality.
  • Small team, large problem: the category we're building didn't exist a few years ago.
  • Profitable and growing virally through word of mouth, not paid acquisition.
  • Build software people actually love and use every day.
  • Free lunch and dinners, competitive salary and equity.
  • Flexible health coverage and 401K matching.
The Role
This is a product engineering role for someone who likes owning problems from idea to production. You'll work across the stack, collaborate closely with the founders, and help shape both the product and how it's built. We're looking for an engineer who's curious, moves quickly, and enjoys figuring out ambiguous problems as part of a small team.
What you'll do
  • You'll build across the product: web with React, Next.js, Prisma, and SWR; desktop with Electron and Swift; and mobile with React Native.
  • Own features from idea to production across web, backend, desktop, and mobile.
  • Work on AI-powered workflows, search, transcription, automations, and performance.
  • Help shape product decisions, not just technical ones.
  • Experiment with the latest AI models and turn useful ideas into product features.
  • Build tools and patterns that make the whole team faster.
  • Work directly with the founders.

You might be a good fit if
  • You've shipped production software and enjoy building products, not just implementing tickets.
  • You care about users as much as implementation.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and like figuring things out.
  • You improve systems instead of just completing tasks.
  • You like small teams, ownership, and moving quickly.

People who've thrived here have often been former founders, early startup engineers, or engineers who've owned features end-to-end. You don't need that exact background-we care much more about how you think and what you've built.
Interview process
  • Intro conversation (30 min)
  • Technical interview (1 hour)
  • Product-focused technical interview (1 hour)
  • Paid two-day work trial in San Francisco
