How much do electrical validation engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 15, 2026, the average yearly pay for electrical validation engineer in the United States is $111,091.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $83,000.00 and $132,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrical validation engineer?

To thrive as an Electrical Validation Engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering principles, circuit analysis, and test methodology, usually supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with lab instrumentation (such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers), scripting languages (like Python or MATLAB), and industry standards is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of electronic systems in high-stakes development environments.

What is an electrical validation engineer?

Electrical Validation Engineers are professionals who test and verify the performance, reliability, and compliance of electronic components, systems, or products before they go into mass production. They design and execute test plans, analyze results, and troubleshoot issues to ensure that electrical systems meet specified requirements and industry standards. Their work is crucial in industries like consumer electronics, automotive, and semiconductor manufacturing to guarantee product quality and safety. Electrical Validation Engineers often collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

What is the difference between Electrical Validation Engineer vs Electrical Test Engineer?

AspectElectrical Validation EngineerElectrical Test Engineer
CertificationsTypically requires engineering degrees, certifications like ISTQB or IPC certificationsOften requires similar certifications, focus on testing standards
Work EnvironmentInvolved in validation processes, quality assurance, and compliance testingFocuses on executing tests, troubleshooting, and reporting
Industry UsageUsed in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace for validation phasesCommon in product testing labs, manufacturing, and R&D

The Electrical Validation Engineer primarily focuses on validating electrical systems to ensure they meet specifications and standards, often during the development or production phases. In contrast, the Electrical Test Engineer concentrates on executing tests, troubleshooting issues, and documenting results. Both roles require similar certifications and work in related environments, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

What are some common challenges electrical validation engineers face when working on new hardware products?

Electrical Validation Engineers often encounter challenges such as tight project deadlines, rapidly changing design specifications, and the need to debug complex issues that arise during hardware testing. Collaborating closely with design, firmware, and manufacturing teams is essential to quickly resolve problems and ensure products meet quality and regulatory standards. Staying up to date with new testing tools and methodologies also contributes to overcoming these challenges and ensuring successful validation cycles.

Job description

PHOTONICS VALIDATION ENGINEER

Mesh Optical Technologies was founded on the belief that optical photons will be at the center of advanced technologies in the coming century. Making advanced technology ubiquitous means building at scale, and that's exactly what we're doing at Mesh.

High-volume photonics manufacturing requires validation strategies that catch issues early and hold the line on quality as production ramps. We are seeking a Photonics Validation Engineer to define and lead test processes for our photonic integrated circuits across wafer, die, and module levels. You will own the validation lifecycle-developing automated test solutions, identifying performance and yield drivers, and partnering with design and supplier teams to ensure every component that ships meets the standards our technology demands.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with PIC design, electrical, mechanical, and test teams to define test processes and coverage for Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) across wafer, die, and integrated module test levels
  • Lead identification and mitigation of test risks specifically for PICs and lasers
  • Contribute to optical components development and validation for next generation products
  • Measure and characterize PIC optical and electrical building blocks
  • Develop and automate test solutions for lab validation, quality screening, and manufacturing metrology
  • Specify and develop test fixtures in collaboration with optical, electrical, and mechanical teams
  • Specify and develop test software in collaboration with optical, electrical, test software, and firmware teams
  • Work with internal engineering teams and suppliers to identify drivers of performance, yield, reliability, and quality issues
  • Interface with suppliers to provide technical feedback and test requirements to develop reliable processes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in electrical engineering, computer engineering, optical engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on industry experience in validation and high-volume test of PIC products
  • Proven experience with optical interconnects and silicon photonics test and manufacturing workflows
  • Hands-on experience with electro-optic wafer- and die-level test systems
  • Hands-on familiarity with optical/RF test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, VNAs, VSGs, high-speed oscilloscopes, BERTs)
  • 1+ years of programming experience (e.g., C++, LabVIEW, and/or Python)
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, optical engineering, or a related discipline
  • Test automation software development experience (e.g., Python/PyVISA, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Familiarity with DSP concepts (e.g., FFE, DFE, CTLE) and optical communications metrics (e.g., OSNR, receiver sensitivity, OMA, optical filtering)
  • Experience defining supplier test requirements and driving supplier execution for production ramps
  • Experience writing test plans and procedures, and delivering go/no-go decisions with clear rationale

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:ย
Photonics Validation Engineer: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00/per year

Title and base salary are determined on a case by case basis commensurate with experience and merit.

In addition to base salary, compensation for this role includes:

  • Eligibility for long-term incentives including company stock options and discretionary bonuses awarded for exceptional achievements.
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance with significant cost covered by the company for yourself and dependents.
  • Paid parental leave and flexible PTO (3 weeks accrued vacation and 10 company holidays per year).
  • 401(k) retirement plan access.
  • Relocation assistance to sunny Los Angeles.
