Electrical System Integration information

What is electrical system integration?

Electrical system integration involves designing, coordinating, and connecting various electrical components and subsystems to function as a unified system. In the context of electrical system integration jobs, professionals often work with control systems, power distribution, and automation tools to ensure compatibility, efficiency, and safety across complex electrical networks.

What does an electrical integrator do?

An electrical system integrator designs, installs, and tests electrical systems to ensure they function correctly within larger projects. They troubleshoot issues, coordinate with engineers and contractors, and often use tools like CAD software and testing equipment to verify system performance. Certification and knowledge of electrical codes are typically required for this role.

What is the difference between Electrical System Integration vs Electrical Design Engineer?

AspectElectrical System IntegrationElectrical Design Engineer
CertificationsPE license, relevant electrical certificationsPE license, electrical engineering degrees
Work EnvironmentField installation, system testing, commissioningDesign offices, CAD work, project planning
Primary FocusAssembling, testing, and commissioning electrical systemsCreating electrical system designs and schematics
Industry UsageConstruction, manufacturing, energy projectsProduct development, infrastructure projects

Electrical System Integration involves implementing and testing electrical systems in real-world environments, ensuring they function correctly. In contrast, Electrical Design Engineers focus on designing electrical systems and creating detailed plans. Both roles require electrical engineering credentials but differ in their daily tasks and work settings.

What engineer makes 500,000 a year?

Highly experienced electrical system integration engineers working in specialized industries such as aerospace, defense, or large-scale energy projects can earn salaries approaching or exceeding $500,000 annually, especially with seniority, advanced certifications, and leadership roles. Such compensation often includes bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing. These roles typically require extensive expertise in system design, project management, and advanced technical skills.

Is EEe a high paying job?

Electrical System Integration is a specialized engineering role that typically offers competitive salaries, especially for those with experience in power systems, control systems, and relevant certifications. Salaries can vary based on location, education, and industry, but generally, it is considered a well-paying engineering profession.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electrical System Integration Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrical System Integration Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, system architecture, and experience with power distribution and control systems, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD tools, simulation software (like MATLAB/Simulink), and industry standards such as IEC or IEEE, along with certifications like Professional Engineer (PE), is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication enable you to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and resolve complex integration issues. These capabilities ensure that electrical systems are safely and efficiently integrated, meeting both technical requirements and regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Electrical System Integration roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Electrical System Integration often encounter challenges such as coordinating cross-functional teams, managing system compatibility issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Effective communication and strong project management skills are essential, as these roles frequently require collaboration with mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers. Staying current with evolving technologies and regulatory requirements also helps address integration hurdles. Proactively participating in design reviews and thorough testing can further minimize integration risks and improve system reliability.

Job description

WHAT WE'RE DOING
At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS), we are driven by innovation and integrity. We believe that by applying the highest standards of business ethics and visionary thinking, everything is within our reach - and yours as a Lockheed Martin employee. Lockheed Martin values your skills, training and education. We are a dynamic team on a recurring multi- year, critical program seeking a Software Engineer who likes to be challenged and solve problems.
WHO WE ARE
Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR): Harnessing the power of data collection and analysis across air, land, sea and space, thousands of sensors onboard manned and unmanned military platforms are collecting huge amounts of data. These ISR systems task, collect, process, analyze, fuse and disseminate the most mission-critical information.
THE WORK
As a Integration and Test Engineer you will own the maintenance, installation, and deployment lifecycle for advanced Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) and Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) solutions, delivering secure, scalable, and AI-enhanced applications that run in Kubernetes-based hub environments.
• Gather & Translate Requirements - Work with system architects to define functional and non functional needs for ISR/ELINT processing, then produce system and software designs that satisfy strict performance and security criteria.
• Containerize & Secure Applications - Author efficient Dockerfiles, produce minimal images, and run automated vulnerability scans; enforce security best practices.
• Deploy with Helm - Create and maintain Helm charts or Kustomize overlays for deployments, services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, and ingress resources across development, test, and production clusters.
• Optimize Performance & Scalability - Conduct load testing on high throughput data streams and refine resource requests/limits for cost effective scaling during peak collection periods.
• Own Integration Activities - Work with customers and attend lab integration events to verify functionality, perform on site system validation, and ensure seamless integration of the hub with existing ISR/ELINT infrastructures.
• Installation Support - Maintains program lab environments performing integration and installation activities to assist with continuous testing. Travels to support installation and integration events.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field
• Proven system admin experience with Linux, RHEL, docker and k8s orchestration
• Familiarity with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
• Proficiency with version-control and collaboration tools (e.g., Git, GitLab, Jira, Confluence) to ensure subsystem interoperability
• Experience with automated testing and continuous integration (unit tests, CI pipelines)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective teamwork and documentation
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently
• Willingness to support significant business travel to customer sites
Desired skills
• Results-driven problem solving and out-of-the-box thinking
• Experience with Services, Micro-services, Software Factories, Cloud-native and Service-Oriented Architectures
• Active TS/SCI clearance
• Excellent written, verbal, and analytical communication skills for teamwork and customer integration
• Familiarity with ISR/ELINT concepts (sensor fusion, RF signal intelligence, geolocation, spectrum analysis)
• Strong background in installation, troubleshooting System-of-Systems (SoS) utilizing multiple orchestration environments (docker-compose and k8s)
• Familiarity with Certificate Administration, STIGs, and Puppet
• Possess a current CompTIA Security + Certification
