Job description

Position Description
At Nevada Gold Mines, our vision is to be the world's most valued gold mining business by finding, developing, and operating the best assets with the best people.
Our engineering team is looking for an Electrical / SCADA Engineer at our Cortez operation. The successful candidate will support the operation, maintenance, and improvement of SCADA, controls, communications, and electrical monitoring systems used across mine power distribution, process infrastructure, and site utilities. This role will help improve system visibility, alarm quality, data reliability, and operational response by supporting RTACs, PLCs, HMIs, historians, networked devices, field instrumentation, and electrical equipment interfaces.
This position is intended for an early- to mid-career engineer who is technically curious, field-oriented, and interested in building strong practical skills in SCADA systems, electrical controls, power system monitoring, and industrial automation in a mining environment.
At Nevada Gold Mines, we are committed to a safe work environment, sending every person home safe and healthy every day and leaving a sustainable legacy in our host communities. We offer a generous benefits package that includes competitive medical, dental, and vision plans with national provider networks, a 401k retirement plan with employer contribution, paid time off, company-sponsored medical clinics, a company match share purchase program, and much more.
Responsibilities
  • Support the configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of SCADA systems, RTACs, PLCs, HMIs, data concentrators, remote I/O, and associated communications equipment.
  • Assist with SCADA point mapping, tag development, alarm configuration, HMI screen updates, historian data validation, and operational displays for electrical and process systems.
  • Troubleshoot field data issues, communications failures, stale values, nuisance alarms, incorrect scaling, failed devices, and control system interface problems.
  • Support integration of electrical equipment into SCADA systems, including switchgear, breakers, protective relays, meters, transformers, generators, substations, and distribution equipment.
  • Work with operations, maintenance, engineering, IT/OT, and vendor teams to improve alarm quality, equipment visibility, trend data, and system reliability.
  • Assist with commissioning and functional testing of SCADA, controls, instrumentation, communications, and electrical monitoring systems for capital and sustaining projects.
  • Develop and maintain SCADA documentation, including point lists, network diagrams, control narratives, panel drawings, as-built markups, equipment settings, test records, and change logs.
  • Support cyber-aware operation of industrial control systems by following site standards for access control, backups, patching coordination, remote access, and change management.
  • Assist with root cause investigations involving controls, instrumentation, communications, power monitoring, or SCADA system performance issues.
  • Support engineering studies and improvement projects involving electrical distribution, power monitoring, load data, equipment status, alarms, and operational trends.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to complete SCADA and electrical controls deliverables safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Participate in field walkdowns, inspections, startup support, outage planning, and troubleshooting activities in substations, electrical rooms, process areas, and field installations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system maintainability, alarm rationalization, data quality, operator usability, and standardization across SCADA and controls platforms.
  • Follow applicable safety, environmental, electrical, and mining regulations, including site procedures, MSHA requirements, lockout/tagout practices, and electrical safety standards.
  • Support continuous improvement and professional development in SCADA, controls, industrial communications, electrical systems, and mining operations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience supporting SCADA, controls, automation, or electrical systems in a heavy industrial, mining, utility, power generation, manufacturing, or processing facility required.
  • Must have experience commissioning, troubleshooting, and supporting operational systems in field environments.
Experience supporting live industrial operations, responding to equipment outages, and performing root-cause analysis required.
  • Experience with industrial SCADA, HMI, PLC, RTU, RTAC, historian, or control system platforms preferred.
  • Familiarity with SEL RTACs, AcSELerator, protective relays, Schweitzer engineering tools, GE Enervista, or electrical monitoring systems required.
  • Basic understanding of electrical power distribution, substations, switchgear, breakers, transformers, protective relays, meters, and one-line diagrams required.
  • Familiarity with industrial communications such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, DNP3, IEC 61850, serial communications, fiber networks, radio systems, or managed switches required.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, loop sheets, panel drawings, and network diagrams required.
  • Experience with troubleshooting field instrumentation, control panels, communications networks, or data acquisition issues required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required; experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SAP, Power BI, SQL, Python, or similar tools preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work safely in field environments and collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, IT/OT, contractors, consultants, and vendors required.
  • Strong commitment to learning, professional development, and staying current with SCADA, controls, industrial networking, and power system technologies required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam completion preferred but not required.

What We Can Offer You
  • A comprehensive compensation package including competitive medical, dental, and vision plans with national provider networks, a 401k retirement plan with employer contribution and employer match, paid time off, company-sponsored medical clinics, a company match share purchase program, and much more.
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team.
  • Opportunities to build practical field experience with electrical, controls, SCADA, communications, and mining infrastructure systems.
