Job description

Electrical Consultants, Inc., a leading power engineering consulting firm, has an immediate opening for an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to assist in the electrical studies group in either the Chesapeake, VA or Madison, WI offices. The APM assists a team of engineers that develop a wide variety of electric system planning and design studies and analysis tasks that include AC and DC power systems. This position has growth opportunity for an individual who is motivated and able to learn new skills.  The successful candidate will work on a team led by experienced electrical engineers and APMs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to aiding electrical engineers, requesting/organizing/validating/updating study information related to multiple simultaneous projects, update planning task tracking tools, develop and maintaining electric system models, work with engineers to prepare narrative reports with charts and tables, and assist other staff as required. The role also requires communicating and collaborating with multiple groups within ECI on project related items, assisting with developing estimates, proofreading reports for grammar, spelling, and format, administering or coordinating project meetings and general program management. Light administrative support may also be required.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma and 2- or 4-year college degree. Training in math, physics, or engineering course work a plus. Applicants should be computer literate and have proficiency using spreadsheets, e-mail and typing. The successful applicant must have the ability to learn complex tasks, be well organized and detail oriented. Effective writing/communication skills are required; knowledge of and/or ability to learn other computer software programs; the ability to learn technical concepts; problem-solving skills; the ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously is a must; the ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed. The successful applicant may be subject to client-mandated drug and background checking. Occasional travel/driving is required; therefore, the successful applicant will be subject to ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements. Applicants must not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status) now or in the future.
