Job description

Summary

Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing calibration, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of machinery, instruments, process control systems, and equipment: Tests and repairs instrumentation systems utilized by production equipment to ensure adherence to established performance levels and product quality. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Lay out and wire control panels with components such as motor starters, PLCs, control relays, terminals, etc. Label all wiring to print. Test each console to ensure proper wiring. Calibrate sensors. Place consoles onto main systems and wire to all external devices per code. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.

    Important Personal Skills

    • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and good working knowledge of SAP.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
    • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 55lbs., climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required.

    • Maintenance, fault finding and calibration of instrumentation and control equipment.
    • Installation of new equipment and relocation of equipment.
    • Must assist with mechanical and electrical improvements to plant and equipment.
    • Must maintain and repair packaging control systems and related equipment.
    • General facility maintenance.
    • Spare parts management.
    • Must ensuring all documentation and recording of work is completed to a high standard.
    • Prior SAP experience is a plus.
    • Must troubleshoot motors and controls, Reading mechanical/electrical blueprints, Hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyor systems, Maintenance & Repair, Preventative Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance.
    • Must perform any other job duties as directed by Maintenance Manager/Supervisor.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate in English (speak, read and write), and be able to distinguish between various wiring colors.
    • Other duties as assigned by management.

    Qualification and Experience

    • NCCER certified is a must.
    • High School Diploma.
    • 3+ years I&E Experience (in the packaging industry preferred)
    • Experience working with electrical distribution and control systems up to 480 VAC, 3PH; able to efficiently troubleshoot, repair, and modify PLC based control systems; experience troubleshooting and applying pneumatic valves, actuators (pneumatic and electric), sensors (thermocouples, pressure transducers, etc.), electric motors, and other typical automation components. Experience building machine control centers utilizing ladder diagrams and device documentation.
    • Prior experience in packaging as maintenance electrician/mechanic is preferred.
    • Must have experience with AC/DC ELECTRICAL, BLUEPRINT READING, PLC PROGRAMING SIEMENS, CONVEYOR LAYOUT, GEARBOXES, HYDRAULIC/PNEUMATIC.
    • Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve electrical and electrical controls issues in circuits containing transformers, disconnects, over current protection devices, and general control components (relays, timers, etc.)
    • Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve automated controls issues on PLC/computer-controlled production equipment.
    • Must be able to execute electrical and controls upgrades and repairs to equipment.
    • Must be very detail oriented to ensure proper wiring and code compliance, while also being able to get work done on time to conform to production schedules.
    • Able to read and interpret ladder diagrams.
    • Must be able to work a rotating shift.
