Job Description:

Fulfil is hiring an Electrical Controls Engineer to design and support industrial control systems and UL 508A compliant control panels for our automation platforms. In this role, you will own the design, documentation, and validation of control panels and electrical systems, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards including UL 508A, NFPA 79, and NEC (NFPA 70). You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to bring reliable, scalable automation systems to life.

In This Role You Will

  • Design industrial control panels in compliance with UL 508A, NFPA 79, and NEC (NFPA 70)
  • Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
  • Perform short-circuit current rating (SCCR) calculations
  • Select and specify control system components including breakers, contactors, PLCs, safety relays, and power supplies
  • Design motor control systems, emergency stop circuits, safety circuits, and power distribution architectures
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 79 requirements for wiring methods, disconnects, grounding, overcurrent protections, and safety circuits
  • Collaborate with PLC software engineers to integrate controls functionality
  • Support panel builds and work closely with contract panel shops
  • Support panel certification and labeling processes
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues during system bring-up, commissioning, and deployment
  • Support installation and commissioning at customer sites as needed
  • Promote safe engineering practices and ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety standards

What We're Looking For

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional work experience
  • Strong working knowledge of UL 508A, NFPA 79, and NEC (NFPA 70)
  • Experience performing SCCR calculations and protection coordination
  • Hands-on experience designing and documenting control panels and industrial machine wiring systems
  • Experience with motor control systems
  • Familiarity with PLC hardware platforms (SICK, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet, Modbus, CAN, etc.)
  • Experience with functional safety in accordance with ISO 13849 or IEC 62061
  • Proficiency in electrical CAD tools (SolidWorks Electrical or similar)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and practical experience with industrial electrical systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel 15% of the time

What We'd Love To See

  • Experience working in a UL 508A panel shop environment
  • Direct experience applying NFPA 79 to design and installations
  • Familiarity with UL field evaluations and inspection processes
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing or scalable panel production
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 13849 and IEC 61508)
  • Prior experience in robots or automated industrial systems
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Not afraid of robots

What You Get

  • A chance to be an early team member and leader of a rapidly growing startup and have an impact on company and technology direction
  • The ability to solve challenging problems with a skilled, dedicated and friendly multi-disciplinary team
  • A balanced, highly collaborative work environment
  • A hybrid work structure
  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 401K, life, and disability coverage
  • A PTO policy that encourages and expects employees to take time to enjoy life outside of work
  • The salary range for this position is $127,000 - $165,000 plus stock and benefits. Pay within the range is based on candidate experience, job-specific skills, education, and work location.
