NSC Staffing is seeking an Electric Motor Rewinder Apprentice II to join our skilled electrical production team supporting shipyard and industrial operations across California, Washington, and Hawaii. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional with marine or industrial electrical background to expand their technical expertise in motor repair and rewinding.
Position Overview:
As an Electric Motor Rewinder Apprentice II, you will safely perform electrical data collection, rewinding, and testing of AC/DC electric motors, generators, transformers, and related components. You will assist in verifying and documenting testing data, ensuring that all work meets NAVSEA and company standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical proficiency, safety awareness, and a solid understanding of shipyard and industrial repair practices.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform rewinding of AC/DC motors, generators, armatures, rotors, transformers, and coils with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct electrical verification tests such as core loss, hi-pot, phase balance, rotational direction, and meg-ohm readings.
  • Document all pre- and post-testing results accurately and maintain inspection records.
  • Operate and maintain shop equipment, including sand blasters, parts washers, steam cleaners, and paint booths.
  • Follow shipyard safety procedures including JHA, fire prevention, confined space entry, and electrical safety standards.
  • Properly blank, tag, and label equipment in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items and WAF procedures.
  • Use and maintain basic and precision tools (e.g., multimeter, micrometer, dial indicator, feeler gauge).
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of lock-out/tag-out, rigging, hoisting, and 4E specifications.
  • Support inspection and testing in alignment with NAVSEA and quality assurance requirements.
  • Safely lift and maneuver components up to 75 lbs and work in confined or elevated spaces as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education: Some college, trade school, or technical training preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of marine and/or shipyard experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC power circuits, commutating windings, and electric motor troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA procedures, lock-out/tag-out, and shipyard safety protocols.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to use precision measuring instruments and electrical testing tools.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications for overhead crane, forklift, manlift, and CPR as required.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Work in confined spaces, at heights over 20 feet, and in shipyard or industrial environments.
  • Tolerate noise, fumes, dust, heat, and inclement weather.
  • Routinely bend, kneel, climb, and lift up to 75 lbs safely.
  • Must be able to safely wear a respirator when required.
