Job description

Location: Scoville, ID

Schedule: Full-Time 

The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician supports Standard Nuclear's manufacturing and laboratory operations by installing, maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems. This role ensures that critical process equipment, sensors, and control systems operate reliably and in accordance with technical and safety requirements. 

This is a hands-on role working with a variety of industrial systems including sensors, transmitters, control loops, and automated equipment. The I&C Technician works closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to support system performance, resolve issues, and maintain safe and efficient operations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance 

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, gauges, and control devices 
  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance on control systems and equipment 
  • Diagnose and repair issues with control loops, signal wiring, and instrumentation systems 
  • Support calibration of instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications 

System Support & Troubleshooting 

  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues in manufacturing and laboratory environments 
  • Work with engineering teams to support system startup, commissioning, and modifications 
  • Assist in identifying root causes of equipment or process issues and implement corrective actions 
  • Support integration and testing of new instrumentation and control systems 

Calibration & Documentation 

  • Perform and document calibration activities in accordance with company procedures 
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, calibration, and system changes 
  • Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements for instrumentation and controls 

Operational Support 

  • Provide on-the-floor support to manufacturing and technical teams 
  • Assist operators and engineers in resolving equipment and process issues 
  • Support safe operation of equipment by ensuring instrumentation and controls function as intended 

Site IT Support

  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for basic IT support at the Idaho facility, in coordination with the Oak Ridge-based IT team.
  • Assist with routine troubleshooting for workstations, printers, phones, network connectivity, conference room equipment, and other site technology.
  • Support setup of user equipment, peripherals, and basic hardware as directed by IT.
  • Help coordinate escalation of more complex IT issues to the Oak Ridge IT team or approved vendors.
  • Maintain awareness of site technology needs and communicate recurring issues or risks to IT and facility leadership

Safety & Compliance 

  • Follow all safety procedures and requirements, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and PPE usage 
  • Support compliance with EH&S, quality, and regulatory requirements 
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field 
  • 2-5 years of experience working with industrial instrumentation and control systems 
  • Experience with sensors, transmitters, control loops, and industrial automation systems 
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings 
  • Experience with calibration of instruments and use of calibration equipment 
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems is a plus 
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work in manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial environments 
  • Experience in nuclear, chemical, energy, or other regulated industries is a plus
