The Controls Engineer II is responsible for developing control system designs, deploying and commissioning PLC code, and creating graphical user interfaces for material handling systems. This role will test code functionality prior to deployment, troubleshoot on-site, and collaborate with Electrical Engineering to design and implement control network architecture. The Controls Engineer II will also define electrical device requirements, support cost and effort estimates, review customer standards, and develop recommendations to improve productivity and reduce costs.
Your role in our team
  • You will design and deploy control systems, including programming and commissioning PLC code, developing graphical user interfaces, and validating or emulating code functionality before deployment and on-site testing
  • You will troubleshoot PLC code and electrical system functionality during on-site commissioning, supporting equipment and system testing to ensure timely project completion
  • You will collaborate with Electrical Engineering resources to define electrical device requirements, support control network architecture design, and review complex customer standards, specifications, and documentation to determine system requirements
  • You will contribute to cost and resource estimates for complex module development and commissioning activities, while monitoring system design cost alignment with equipment and engineering service project budgets
  • You will execute software quality processes through module, subsystem, and system-level test procedures
  • You will develop recommendations that enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction

Your profile
  • You have obtained a bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field with five (5) years of work experience in the material handling or a related industry, or 3 years of relevant work experience with a Master's degree
  • You have experience with Rockwell Automation PLC programming (including GuardLogix) and Siemens TIA Portal programming (including Starter)
  • You have experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture
  • You have experience interpreting electrical schematics and a solid understanding of HMI programming
  • You have proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with project management, engineering teams, installation crews, and external partners
  • You have demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders
  • You understand and support project financial tracking and schedule management while maintaining high service standards
  • You can travel up to 40% annually, including short-term assignments with 10/4 rotations as project needs require
