Job description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Architectural and Engineering Design firm. The ideal candidate will lead the design and development of electrical systems for a variety of commercial and K-12 educational projects, ensuring they meet both client requirements and current industry standards. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, managing project timelines, and mentoring junior engineers.
This remote position requires the individual to live in the state of Michigan with the ability to regularly travel throughout the state to client sites.
Essential Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
  • Lead the design of electrical power, lighting, life safety and security systems for commercial and K-12 educational buildings.
  • Develop detailed electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams and specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

Project Management:
  • Manage electrical engineering projects from concept through completion.
  • Coordinate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.

Technical Expertise:
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise in the selection of electrical power and lighting systems, life safety systems and security systems and components.
  • Conduct detailed site inspections and assessments to ensure design feasibility and compliance.
  • Perform load calculations, lighting calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc flash hazard and other engineering calculations as needed.
  • Specifying lighting controls and luminaire selections.
    Ensuring lighting designs meet current standards and the clients' needs.
  • Specifying and sizing standby power systems.
  • Specifying auxiliary systems, including fire alarm systems and access control.
  • Integrating with CCTVand other low voltage systems design consultants.

Quality Assurance:
  • Review, approve, sign and seal electrical engineering documents and deliverables.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of designs.
  • Address and resolve any technical issues that arise during construction.

Mentorship and Leadership:
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and support staff.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
  • Lead design review meetings and provide constructive feedback.

Client Interaction:
  • Interface with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Prepare and present project proposals, reports, and technical presentations.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through effective communication and project management.

Other:
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General Direction: Plans and arranges own work. Uses a wide range of procedures to accomplish assigned objectives.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Advanced supervision: Determines work assignments, priorities, and procedures for subordinates. Responsible for assigning, scheduling, and ensuring the quality and quantity of work. Approves time off and schedule adjustments. Provides training and coaching
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15
    years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with prior K-12 design experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex projects.,
  • Demonstrated creative thinking, design ability, and technical proficiency

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in State of Michigan required, or ability to obtain license via reciprocity

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and lighting design calculation software .
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam preferred.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as needed. Sites are anticipated to all be within the State of Michigan.
  • This position requires candidates to live in the state of Michigan with flexibility to work from home and near one of our four (4) offices. This position also requires the ability to travel to client sites across the state.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced electrical systems such as smart grids, renewable energy systems, and energy storage solutions.
  • Experience in managing client relationships and business development.
