Job description

Industrial Electrical Designer (Hybrid) Foley, AL 36535 System One is seeking an Industrial Electrical Designer in Foley, Alabama to support heavy-industrial and manufacturing projects. This position works closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, and Civil Engineers, as well as project managers, to develop practical, constructible electrical designs for operating industrial facilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in producing detailed electrical drawings and specifications and in supporting installation and commissioning activities in active plant environments. Our client's electrical designers and engineers are directly involved in real projects — from power distribution systems and mill equipment to controls, automation, and instrumentation — not just isolated drafting tasks.   • Contract-to-hire position

  • Pay rate range: $30 - $50/hr. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

  • Start date: As soon as possible

  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday, standard business hours (40 hrs/wk)

  • Work location: Hybrid position with part-time onsite at our client's office in Foley, AL 36535

  • Weekly pay

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed electrical design drawings and documentation using CAD-based tools for industrial and manufacturing facilities

  • Prepare and review electrical design packages including power distribution, grounding, lighting, and control systems

  • Perform electrical load calculations and select appropriate equipment, cable sizes, and protective devices

  • Coordinate closely with mechanical, structural, civil, and automation disciplines to ensure proper integration of electrical systems

  • Support testing, inspection, and commissioning activities to verify correct installation and safe operation

  • Prepare and maintain project documentation including calculations, design notes, and technical correspondence

  • Provide technical support to construction teams and site personnel during installation and start-up

  • Apply new technologies and design methods to improve reliability, constructability, and overall project efficiency

Desirable Experience and Technical Skills

  • The Electrical Designer / Project Engineer will support a wide range of industrial electrical systems, including:

    • High-voltage plant distribution systems up to 34.5 kV

    • Medium- and low-voltage industrial distribution systems including 13.8 kV, 4.16 kV, 2.4 kV, and 480 V

    • Large industrial machinery power distribution and MCC systems

    • Industrial motor control systems, including AC and DC drive systems in both medium- and low-voltage applications

    • Industrial process control systems using PLCs (Siemens experience preferred), including I/O and point-to-point wiring

    • Industrial communications networks including PROFINET, PROFIBUS, and Ethernet-based systems

    • Industrial robotic systems

    • Industrial instrumentation systems, including P&ID-based design and documentation and wireless instrumentation technologies

Software and Tools

  • Proficiency with electrical CAD and documentation tools

  • EPLAN experience is a strong plus

  • SolidWorks knowledge is a plus for equipment and layout coordination

Additional Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems and circuits, including power distribution, lighting, and grounding systems using CAD tools

  • Prepare and review electrical installation drawings and technical specifications for industrial projects

  • Develop testing and inspection procedures for electrical systems

  • Coordinate code compliance and support designs in accordance with applicable NEC, NFPA, and industry standards

  • Research and evaluate new electrical and automation technologies to improve system performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in industrial electrical design and documentation

  • Strong working knowledge of power distribution systems, motor control, and industrial automation

  • Ability to work directly with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and plant personnel

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Willingness to support site activities and field execution as required
