Job Description
AECOM has a position available foran Electrical Engineer to strengthen our talented team of engineers and designers working on renewable projects across the country for the US Energy Practice. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.
Our team provides a wide range of engineering services in support of projects across the country with renewable project scopes such as commercial and industrial installations focused on resiliency, efficiency and reliability as well as those utility scale projects seeking to power communities via interconnected networks or high-density installations. Areas of focus include solar photovoltaics (PV), including new technologies in agrivoltaics and floating PV, energy storage (e.g. BESS, supercapacitors), interconnection, wind repowering, next generation energy generation (e.g. fuel cells), new site development, data centers and more.
Focused on a BESS experience, we are looking for a strong candidate with a power engineering background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base.
Qualified candidates are those established technical leaders with a diverse background in distributed energy solutions committed to quality project delivery with an interest and curiosity in devising innovative solutions.
The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
  • Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under the guidance of senior staff
  • Work with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
  • Solar PV and BESS system design including array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnections for rooftop, carport, and ground mount (fixed tilt and single-axis tracking) systems
  • Solar PV and BESS system energy production modelling
  • Developing construction and equipment specifications
  • Engineering calculations (NEC maximum system voltage, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnect requirements, voltage drop, and conduit sizing)
  • Engineering development and support of construction drawing developments - one lines, network diagrams, etc.
  • PV and BESS system cost estimation and payback evaluations
  • DC and low to medium voltage power distribution design
  • Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
  • Participating in and presenting at meetings including those requiring occasional travel

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering or Engineering related discipline and 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and integration of utility-scale renewable and battery storage systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current professional engineering license (PE) and ability to attain additional states by comity
  • 8+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Proficient in industry software such as Homer, NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, and Helioscope
  • MV AC Collection System Design Experience
  • Protection and Controls Experience
  • Knowledgeable in power system modeling in ETAP and/or SKM
  • Strong familiarity with the NEC, as well as related codes such as IBC and NFPA 855
  • Familiarity with utility practices, industry codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks
  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
  • Capable of system financial estimation (Capex, Opex), PPA recommendation and calculating ROI
  • Special design experience: floating PV, fuel cells, agrivoltaics, super capacitors, etc.
  • Field construction and commissioning experience
