Job description

Burnside has a new role available for an Architect to join our growing Facilities Design Team.  The position offers the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to help support the growth of our Architectural team and serve clients across a variety of sectors including residential, industrial, commercial and municipal facilities.  This position will involve working closely with our in-house, integrated group of design professionals including the architectural, structural, building restoration, mechanical, and electrical teams as well as the opportunity to work with our first nations and infrastructure groups.

As an Architect on our team, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with experts across multiple disciplines, influence projects from concept to construction, and help deliver solutions that serve our clients well into the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, program, plan, design, and administer building projects for clients, applying knowledge of architectural design, construction detailing, construction procedures, zoning, building codes, building materials, and building systems.
  • Produces conceptual plans, renderings, and documents.
  • Plan and layout projects.
  • Coordinates and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.
  • Work as a project manager to prepare proposals, direct, supervise and check activities of staff engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents for the conceptual design, schematic design and/or the detailed design.
  • Liaise with project managers, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Work together with highly collaborative multi-discipline design teams.
  • Research and coordinate material and products for project specifications.
  • Conduct construction reviews for conformance to architectural drawings and contract administration.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and assist in resolving them.
  • Foster strong client relationships and ensure client satisfaction throughout the project.
  • Manage and complete tasks for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Support and manage municipal and agency approvals including site plan approval, conservation authority approval and building permits.

  • Ability to understand client needs and provide solutions that are both elegant and efficient.

  • Ability to manage multiple multidisciplinary projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture from an accredited institution
  • A member of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA)
  • 3+ years of relevant architectural experience
  • Understanding and knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, building construction, building systems, site requirements and municipal approval processes.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp and other architectural tools.
  • LEED AP or PMP would be considered an asset

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000

The final compensation offered will be based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
