Skills: Strong knowledge of switchgear, transformers, generators, MV/LV distribution systems, and protection relays, Hands-on commissioning and startup experience with electrical power systems, 4+ years of electrical engineering experience in power generation, industrial facilities, utilities, data centers, or similar environments.
 
Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer – Power Innovation supports the safe, reliable, and efficient commissioning and startup of power generation and energy systems. This role provides electrical engineering expertise throughout pre-commissioning, commissioning, and turnover, ensuring systems are properly tested, verified, and ready for operation.
 
Responsibilities
Provide electrical engineering support across commissioning, startup, and system turnover phases
Lead and support electrical commissioning activities, including testing, verification, and troubleshooting of:
Switchgear, transformers, generators, and associated systems
Protection relays and control systems
Validate power system studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) and ensure alignment with as-built conditions prior to energization
Execute and oversee electrical testing activities (e.g., insulation resistance, hi-pot, relay testing, functional verification)
Support pre-commissioning activities, including loop checks, calibration, and protection system verification
Coordinate and participate in FAT, SAT, PSSR, and RFSU processes to ensure systems meet requirements for startup and turnover
Collaborate with Project Management, Construction, Commissioning, Controls, and Operations teams to ensure aligned execution and system readiness
Work directly in the field to support testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution during commissioning and startup
Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and company safety requirements
Support BESS and power generation system integration, including system-level testing and performance validation
Develop and maintain commissioning documentation, including ITRs, test records, redlines, and turnover packages
Identify, track, and drive resolution of punch list items prior to system handover
Coordinate with vendors to support installation, testing, and commissioning activities
Promote continuous improvement and support development of standardized commissioning processes and tools
Mentor and support development of junior engineers
Other duties as assigned
 
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited), or
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or commissioning in power generation, industrial, or related industries
Working knowledge of:
Electrical power systems and equipment (switchgear, transformers, generators)
Electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and control systems
Commissioning, testing, and startup processes
 
Technical Skills
Proficiency with power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, MATLAB, or similar)
Experience with protection relay testing and electrical test equipment (e.g., Omicron, Doble, Megger)
Understanding of:
Protection coordination and arc flash analysis
Grid integration and energy storage systems
DCS/SCADA systems and electrical integration
 
Work Environment
Field-based role supporting active construction, commissioning, and startup environments
Requires the ability to work in industrial settings and follow all required safety protocols
