Job description

Position Overview

Triad Engineering Solutions is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support electrical engineering and design efforts.  This position will primarily be involved with projects at large industrial facilities such as shipyards, but may also at times involve smaller commercial projects.  The successful candidate will have experience with 120/208V and 277/480V low voltage power distribution (medium voltage experience a plus), transformers, generators, motor control centers, motor starters, and basic controls.  This position requires the candidate to work largely independently to investigate existing conditions at the client’s facility, conduct necessary calculations, write reports, develop drawings in AutoCAD format, and guide designers in development of drawings.  Managing multiple projects simultaneously and bringing them to completion in a timely manner is critical.


Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients to discuss project scope, expectations, schedule, etc.
  • Conduct site visits at large industrial facilities to inspect existing equipment, document existing conditions, record equipment nameplate information, measure critical dimensions, etc.
  • Conduct necessary calculations such as load analyses, voltage drop, fault ratings, etc.
  • Contact vendors and manufacturer’s representatives to obtain information on existing or proposed new equipment
  • Write detailed specifications for materials, equipment, etc.
  • Develop AutoCAD drawings such as plans, elevations, conduit support details, one-line diagrams, elementary wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Support projects during construction by reviewing submittals, answering RFIs, etc.
  • Attend client meetings and represent Triad Engineering Solutions with professionalism


Qualifications / Experience

  • Must have experience working with industrial power distribution systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (preferred)
  • EIT or PE (preferred)
  • Familiarity with National Electric Code (NEC)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics, etc.
  • Ability to work well with others (co-workers, clients, contractors, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of CAD software (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (email, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to multi-task, coordinate with other team members, and prioritize multiple projects
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn
  • Comfortable working in an industrial facility environment 
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to reliably report to our office in Carrollton, VA on a daily basis
