Position Overview:

The Senior Electrical Engineer will report to the Lead Electrical Engineer. They will support design, construction and commissioning of capital projects as subject matter expert (SME) for site electrical projects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct due diligence on electrical infrastructure to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards
  • Work with contractors through various phases of project design, bidding, construction and commissioning.
  • Serve as an owner’s representative providing field inspections, construction quality assurance, oversight of electrical testing and commissioning activities during various phases of construction, including adherence to established processes, identification of code compliance issues and common deficiencies
  • Preparing engineering related calculations, developing drawings and visual aids.
  • Assisting with field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials quality
  • Work with the MP Process Engineering, Process Controls, and Maintenance teams to diagnose electrical issues impacting the process and the power distribution system.
  • Work with site maintenance team to optimize routine testing and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical failures; contribute to RCFAs and develop actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure that the plant electrical protection system (12KV) is operating as intend and critical infrastructure is adequately protected.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or relevant technical degree is required.
  • 7+ years electrical construction, commissioning and supervision experience in a heavy industrial or mining environment.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards in project construction and commissioning.
  • Experience managing electrical construction contractors in heavy industrial facilities.
  • Experience with high voltage infrastructure and power distribution systems in an industrial environment.

Desired Qualities:

  • Experience with designing electrical and safety systems in chemical processing facility.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD, ETAP, or EASYPOWER
  • Experience with GE Relays, switchgears and Rockwell MCCs.
  • Ability to work in teams with strong collaboration skills.
  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to learn new skills.
  • Ability to complete a task with minimal supervision.
  • Valid Driver’s License required for operating company vehicles on property.

Working Conditions - Our facility sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. Employees may be subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting (heat and cold, wind). Work is at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, which may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.

Physical Demands - Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing – all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing – distant/near; depth perception; color vision. While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
