How much do electrical engineer matlab jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for electrical engineer matlab in Missouri is $104,204.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $77,900.00 and $123,800.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does an electrical engineer MATLAB do?

An Electrical Engineer Matlab specializes in using MATLAB software to design, simulate, and analyze electrical systems and components. They apply their knowledge of electrical engineering principles to develop models, run simulations, and interpret results to improve product designs or solve technical problems. Their work often involves signal processing, control systems, circuit analysis, and data visualization. MATLAB skills are crucial for automating calculations, prototyping, and validating engineering concepts efficiently.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an electrical engineer MATLAB?

To thrive as an Electrical Engineer with a focus on MATLAB, you need a strong background in electrical engineering principles, mathematics, and signal processing, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in MATLAB for modeling, simulation, and data analysis—as well as familiarity with related toolboxes and potentially Simulink—is essential. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you interpret complex data and convey technical information clearly. These capabilities ensure accurate system design, efficient troubleshooting, and successful collaboration on complex engineering projects.

What is the difference between Electrical Engineer Matlab vs Electrical Engineer Simulink?

AspectElectrical Engineer MatlabElectrical Engineer Simulink
CredentialsBachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering, MATLAB certification often preferredBachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering, Simulink certification advantageous
Work EnvironmentDesign, analysis, and programming using MATLAB softwareModeling, simulation, and system design using Simulink environment
Industry UsageResearch, automation, signal processing, control systemsSystem modeling, control design, dynamic system simulation

Electrical Engineer Matlab focuses on programming and data analysis within MATLAB, while Electrical Engineer Simulink emphasizes system modeling and simulation using Simulink. Both roles often overlap and require similar qualifications, but they specialize in different aspects of electrical system design and analysis.

How does an electrical engineer MATLAB typically collaborate with other engineering teams during project development?

Electrical Engineers who specialize in MATLAB often work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and project managers. They use MATLAB to simulate and model electrical systems, and their findings help inform design decisions and troubleshoot potential issues early in the development process. Effective communication and documentation are key, as engineers must translate complex data and simulation results into actionable insights for colleagues who may not have a MATLAB background. Regular meetings, shared reports, and collaborative problem-solving sessions are common to ensure alignment and project success.

Job description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions‑free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

Role Summary

Responsible for the calibration and optimization of electric motor control features, and the integration testing of algorithms on dynamometer and vehicle platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and test electric motor control algorithms and calibrations for high‑power electric drive systems consisting of high voltage power converters and electric motors (such as surface mounted and interior permanent magnet machines, induction machines, and other machine technologies).
  • Work with our controls and software developers to calibrate and validate the functionality of motor control features across vehicle dynamics, infotainment, connectivity, thermal, and other domains.
  • Collaborate with other test teams to help ensure full test coverage across:
    • High‑voltage dynamometer tests
    • Hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) tests
    • Sub‑component tests
    • Vehicle tests
  • Maintain health of vehicle fleet and root‑cause software, mechanical, and electrical issues.
  • Ensure successful integration in meeting performance specification of the electric drive system when integrating with various sub‑components or systems.
  • Plan and perform regression testing for algorithm and calibration development.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams such as development, vehicle test, diagnostic, and service teams.
  • Perform simulation and analysis of the electric drive system.
  • Work as part of a fast‑paced, diverse team of professionals supporting component development and subsystem and vehicle integration.
  • Participate in vehicle test trip support for cold and hot weather testing.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and competitive methods and products.
  • Submit patents and trade secrets to advance Rivian intellectual property portfolio in the field of propulsion drive controls.
Qualifications
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with background in motor control algorithms and electric machine characterization.
  • 3+ years EV or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in the theory and principles of AC electric machine drive and three‑phase switching power converter topologies.
  • Fluency in model‑based design using Matlab/Simulink, modeling and simulation of electric drives.
  • Fluency in Git or other version control systems.
  • Fluency in C/C++ and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with tools for measurement and integration such as CANalyzer, CANape, or similar.
  • Experience with vehicle testing.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% based on business demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in a fast‑paced team.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision and full autonomy.
  • Hands‑on experience working in high‑voltage high‑power laboratory and/or vehicle test environment.
Pay Disclosure
