Job description

STS Technical Services is hiring an Electrical Engineer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to support the design and development of electrical control systems for heat processing and process cleaning equipment.
This position is ideal for an engineer with hands-on PLC programming experience, strong systems integration knowledge and the ability to develop electrical schematics, control architectures and sequence-of-operations documentation.
Position Overview
Under the direction of the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer II applies electrical engineering principles to the design of heat processing equipment.
Typical areas of responsibility include PLC process programming, operator interfaces, network communications, instrumentation, power distribution and electrical controls. The position performs routine and intermediate engineering assignments while continuing to develop more advanced applied engineering skills.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement electrical control systems using PLCs, relays, contactors and related devices
  • Work with RTDs, transmitters, switches and other instrumentation
  • Develop electrical schematic drawings and bills of materials
  • Design PLC architectures for heat processing and process cleaning equipment
  • Develop and program PLC software
  • Write sequence-of-operations documentation
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to complete engineering assignments
  • Serve as the electrical technical lead on assigned projects
  • Review sales contracts and identify critical project requirements
  • Support project completion within established budgets
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding approvals, required information and contract progress
  • Monitor compliance with customer requirements
  • Maintain compliance with applicable National, NFPA and UL codes
  • Follow established standards, policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate and organized engineering records and documentation
  • Support teamwork, customer communication, decision-making and problem-solving throughout assigned projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Two to four years of related experience in an Electrical Engineering or PLC environment
  • Experience with heat processing equipment or related equipment design
  • At least two years of PLC programming experience
  • Experience with PLC architecture design and software programming
  • Familiarity with systems integration
  • Experience working with PLCs and HMIs
  • Knowledge of instrumentation
  • Knowledge of networking and communications
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD tools
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Familiarity with gas trains and associated codes
  • Understanding of NFPA requirements
  • Understanding of NEC requirements
  • Understanding of UL requirements
  • Understanding of CE requirements
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements
  • Ability to accurately record and document technical information
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with general office software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or MRP/ERP systems
  • Ability to follow verbal, written and diagram-based instructions
  • Basic mathematical skills involving whole numbers, fractions and decimals

  • Associate or bachelor's degree coursework beyond minimum requirements
  • VFD experience
  • Soft Start experience
