Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior VDC Engineer is responsible for task and project level management, implementation, and execution of McCarthy's Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes, tools and best practices within their assigned projects. The Senior VDC Engineer reports to the VDC Manager or next highest position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General Application
  • Promote a culture of virtual building among all internal and external stakeholders
  • Project and task-level execution of VDC functions including BIM Execution planning, BIM Coordination, 3D modeling, 2D drawing production, 3D printing, laser scanning, drone flights and photogrammetry
  • Develop BIM Execution Plan attachments for tasks and projects assigned and ensure all contributions are aligned with overall intent of the project plan and related contract documents
  • Develop VDC schedules for tasks and projects assigned, proactively manage updates, track actual completion times, and communicate progress and completion to VDC Manager for records
  • Develop VDC budgets for tasks and projects assigned, proactively manage and communicate changes, track actuals vs budgets, and communicate progress to VDC Manager for records
  • Participate in VDC implementation opportunities during the pursuit phase
  • Identify opportunities to lead BIM tools and VDC process training and support at the project-level for Engineers, Managers, Superintendents and McCarthy self-perform partners
  • Lead VDC training for peers through various regional training opportunities
  • Coordinate workload of VDC Engineers, Interns and Co-Ops at a task and project-level
  • Maintain individual task VDC metrics and verify/communicate with VDC Manager for records
  • Document VDC lessons learned and implemented practices and communicate to VDC Manager
  • Understand and contribute, as applicable, to regional and corporate VDC goals and initiatives

Model Content Creation
  • Develop, update, and integrate native 3D model content to support Self-Perform scopes of work (Concrete, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.)
  • Develop, update, and integrate native 3D model content to support coordination of work performed by others (Shoring, Framing, Misc. Metals, Clearances, Gap Modeling, etc.)

Model Coordination and Development
  • Lead behavioral and technical aspect of 3D constructability, Design and Trade Coordination, working with internal and external project teams through our standard of care and best practices

Reality Capture
  • Execute laser scanning, processing, and deliverables for assigned project phases and ensure laser scan information is integrated with all other applicable aspects and phases of projects
  • Execute drone flights, processing, and deliverables for assigned project phases and ensure laser scan information is integrated with all other applicable aspects and phases of projects

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture is required, or equivalent industry experience
  • 2+ years relevant industry experience; 1+ years dedicated to VDC desired
  • Process oriented, timely, and accountable to commitments/deadlines
  • Team builder attitude, self-motivated problem solver, active cross-communicator/facilitator
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, facilitate and document meetings/initiatives to sufficient detail
  • General knowledge of building construction sequencing and building systems
  • General knowledge of project delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design Build, and CMAR)
  • Proficient with authoring, analysis and scheduling tools such as Revit, Revizto, SketchUp, Tekla, Synchro, or others where applicable
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in daily documentation programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, or others where applicable
  • Some regional travel required
