Job description

Reno James Engineering is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to join our MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineering team. The ideal candidate will design, develop, and coordinate electrical systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential projects while collaborating closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients. This role requires strong technical knowledge, proficiency in industry-standard design software, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, low-voltage, and emergency power systems for a variety of building projects.
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Develop electrical plans and details using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Review and mark up drawings, submittals, and construction documents using Bluebeam Revu.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, plumbing, structural, and architectural disciplines.
  • Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop calculations, and equipment sizing.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, NEC, energy codes, and client requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings with clients, architects, contractors, and internal project teams.
  • Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions, monitor construction progress, and resolve field issues.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), review shop drawings, and support construction administration.
  • Assist in project scheduling, budgeting, and maintaining project documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 0-2 years of experience in MEP consulting engineering (or equivalent experience based on position level).
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC), and applicable energy codes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience designing commercial, healthcare, educational, industrial, or multifamily projects.
  • Familiarity with lighting design software and electrical analysis programs.
  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices and energy-efficient design.
