Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer I to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide Timing and Firing(T&F) support, diagnostic fielding, and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of T&F systems, and diagnostics systems on physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE) Complex and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This Electrical Engineer will report primarily to the NNSS and will support fielding efforts for T&F with diagnostic detection and recording systems, with an emphasis in the practical applications of diagnostics systems related to Timing and Firing activities such as characterization of high frequency data, electro-optical transmission systems, and firing diagnostic recoding systems.
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The NNSS is an enterprise of special-purpose, multi-mission, high-hazard experimentation facilities delivering technical and service solutions in partnership with the National Laboratories. Our collaborative work supports the government's most important national security missions. (See NNSS.gov for our unique capabilities.) Our 3,000+ professional, craft, and support employees are called upon to innovate, collaborate, and deliver on some of the more difficult nuclear security challenges facing the world today.Â

- Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees.
Ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
Knowledge/experience with fiberoptics and diode lasers.
Knowledge/experience with coax cables and other types of copper transmission lines.
Able to read and understand schematic drawings and one-lines
Experience with setting up and operating research and development (R&D) instrumentation in a laboratory setting.
Hands on knowledge of electronic instrumentation including high-speed digitizers, digital oscilloscopes, digital delay/pulse generators, high voltage instrumentation, and other R&D laboratory instrumentation is highly desirable.
Other required skills include exposure in programming platforms, good technical writing and communication skills, and familiarity with PCs and PC application software, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Desire to learn and innovate.
Ability to work in high stress, procedurally rigorous environments.
Ability to work in hazardous environments that include high voltage systems, visible and ultraviolet lasers, large scale pulsed power machines, and vacuum and pressurized systems.
A desire and ability to develop solutions to moderately complex engineering problems after minimal guidance.
Must be willing to travel occasional to the North Las Vegas Facility, Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Livermore, California, in support of these functions.
Must be billing to work in an underground Facilities.Â
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team.
Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct, or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, "Personnel Security". If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Â Applicant selected will be subject to a federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program."
