Job description

Lead the Team. Own the Discipline. Help Build What's Next.

CANUSA EPC is a growing, mid-sized EPC firm delivering complex energy projects across North America, with a portfolio focused on CO₂ capture, natural gas processing, compression, helium recovery, and low-carbon power generation.

We're looking for an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead our electrical engineering department and help shape the next stage of its growth.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership position with responsibility for both the people and technical performance of the electrical group. You'll lead and develop engineers and designers, manage resources across projects, establish engineering standards, oversee quality and budgets, and serve as a senior electrical technical authority for our clients and project teams.

If you're an experienced Electrical Engineering leader who wants the opportunity to build a team—not simply inherit a title—we want to hear from you.

What You'll Lead

As Electrical Engineering Manager, you'll have responsibility for the overall performance and development of the electrical engineering department.

People & Department Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Electrical Engineers and Designers.
  • Manage department staffing, workload, priorities, and resource allocation across projects.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding electrical team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support individual career and professional development.
  • Identify staffing needs based on current and upcoming project demands.
  • Establish clear expectations for technical quality, accountability, communication, and project execution.
  • Build a collaborative team culture that encourages technical growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Work with senior leadership to support the continued growth and development of the electrical department.

Technical Leadership

You'll remain close enough to the engineering to provide meaningful technical direction while empowering your team to execute.

  • Serve as a senior electrical technical authority for CANUSA EPC projects.
  • Establish and maintain electrical engineering standards, specifications, procedures, templates, and design tools.
  • Oversee electrical engineering quality and consistency across projects.
  • Lead and review complex electrical engineering designs and calculations.
  • Provide final technical review of critical electrical deliverables.
  • Lead or review power system studies including:
    • Load flow
    • Short-circuit
    • Protective device coordination
    • Arc-flash
    • Motor starting
    • Harmonic analysis
  • Oversee design and specification of:
    • MV/LV power distribution systems
    • Substations
    • Transformers
    • Switchgear and MCCs
    • Large motors and VFDs
    • Emergency and standby generation
    • Grounding systems
    • Electrical heat tracing
  • Provide technical leadership for hazardous-area electrical design.
  • Ensure electrical designs meet applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and CANUSA EPC quality expectations.

Project & Commercial Management

This role isn't only about technical engineering. You'll help ensure the electrical department executes projects successfully.

  • Manage electrical engineering resource loading budgets, schedules, deliverables, and resource forecasts.
  • Monitor project performance and identify potential scope, schedule, or budget issues.
  • Coordinate electrical resources across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to establish scope, schedules, staffing plans, and engineering estimates.
  • Support proposals, project estimates, and business development activities.
  • Review electrical scope changes and help evaluate impacts to project cost and schedule.
  • Support equipment procurement and vendor technical evaluations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary design and constructability reviews.

Client Leadership

  • Serve as a client-facing electrical engineering leader for CANUSA EPC.
  • Build strong working relationships with client engineering and operations teams.
  • Lead electrical discussions during client and vendor meetings.
  • Communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Help resolve complex engineering and project execution challenges.
  • Represent CANUSA EPC's electrical engineering capabilities during proposals and client discussions.

The Projects You'll Support

Our current and upcoming portfolio includes projects involving:

  • Carbon Capture – facilities approximately 500–1,000 metric tons/day CO₂
  • Power Generation – gas turbine and reciprocating engine facilities approximately 10–100 MW
  • Natural Gas Processing – facilities up to approximately 100 MMscfd
  • Natural Gas Compression – high-pressure compression facilities up to approximately 200 MMscfd
  • Helium Recovery & Processing – recovery, purification, compression, and liquefaction facilities

Projects include both greenfield and brownfield facilities throughout the United States and Canada.

Electrical scope may include hazardous-area design, large motors and VFDs, MV/HV distribution, substations, generation systems, grounding, heat tracing, and DCS/SCADA integration.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
  • Approximately 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience within oil & gas, natural gas processing, power generation, petrochemical, industrial energy, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineers and/or designers.
  • Strong industrial electrical engineering and power distribution experience.
  • Experience managing technical deliverables, project priorities, and engineering resources.
  • Strong understanding of hazardous-area electrical design.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards such as NFPA 70/NEC, IEEE, API, and related electrical codes and standards.
  • Strong technical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

Professional Licensure

  • Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in at least one U.S. state strongly preferred.
  • Candidates who are eligible and willing to obtain additional U.S. state registrations are encouraged to apply.

We'd Especially Like to See

These qualifications are valuable, but you don't need every one to apply:

  • Previous experience as an Electrical Engineering Manager, Electrical Department Manager, Discipline Manager, or Lead Electrical Engineer.
  • EPC or engineering consulting experience.
  • Experience with natural gas processing or compression facilities.
  • Carbon capture experience.
  • Gas turbine or reciprocating engine power generation experience.
  • Helium or cryogenic processing experience.
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar power system analysis software.
  • Experience with MV/HV substations and distribution systems.
  • Experience with large VFD and motor applications.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC/CSA C22.1).
  • Experience supporting field construction, commissioning, startup, or troubleshooting.

Who We're Looking For

You may already be managing an electrical engineering department.

Or you may be a strong Electrical Discipline Lead, Principal Electrical Engineer, or Lead Electrical Engineer who's ready to officially step into management.

We're looking for someone who can balance both sides of the role:

People leadership and technical credibility.

You should be comfortable developing engineers, managing workloads, having difficult conversations when necessary, working with clients, watching project budgets, and making technical decisions when your team needs direction.

We aren't looking for someone who simply wants the title of Manager.

We're looking for someone who wants to build and lead a great engineering team.

What We Offer

  • A true leadership role with the ability to influence how the electrical department operates and grows.
  • Direct interaction with senior leadership.
  • Opportunity to build and develop your engineering team.
  • Exposure to complex and evolving energy projects.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company matching.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA).
  • Life insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Paid time off.
  • Professional development assistance.
  • Retirement benefits.

Ready to Lead?

If you're an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong technical judgment and a passion for developing people, this is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on both projects and the team delivering them.

Don't meet every preferred qualification? Apply anyway. We're looking for the right engineering leader not a résumé that checks every possible box.
