Job description

Ready to Take the Lead?

CANUSA EPC is looking for an experiencedLead Process Engineer to join our growing Houston engineering team.

We're looking for someone with a strong process engineering foundation who is ready to take ownership of projects, work directly with clients, and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.

You don't need to check every box to apply. If you have strong oil & gas, natural gas processing, midstream, or related process engineering experience and you're ready to take the next step in your career, we'd like to hear from you.

What You'll Do

As a Lead Process Engineer, you'll lead and execute process engineering activities across EPC projects while working closely with clients, project managers, engineers, designers, vendors, and field personnel.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead process engineering activities from early design through detailed engineering and project execution.
  • Develop and review Basis of Design documents, process studies, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Develop and review PFDs, Heat & Material Balances (HMBs), and P&IDs.
  • Develop and review process simulation models using BRE ProMax, AspenTech HYSYS, or similar software.
  • Perform and review equipment, piping, valve, and PSV sizing calculations.
  • Support relief system and relief header analyses.
  • Develop and review process equipment specifications.
  • Review vendor documentation for technical compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in PHA/HAZOP, technical, and multidisciplinary design reviews.
  • Work directly with client engineering and operations teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Civil/Structural, and Project Management teams.
  • Conduct field surveys and site walkdowns.
  • Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and operational improvement activities.
  • Contribute to proposals, engineering estimates, and business development efforts.
  • Help develop and improve CANUSA EPC's process engineering standards and practices.
What We're Looking For Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Approximately 8+ years of relevant process engineering experience.
  • Experience within oil & gas, natural gas processing, midstream, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, or a related process industry.
  • Experience developing or reviewing PFDs, HMBs, P&IDs, process calculations, and equipment specifications.
  • Experience using process simulation software such as ProMax, HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to independently evaluate and solve technical engineering problems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Ability and interest in providing technical guidance to less-experienced engineers.
We'd Love to See

These qualifications are preferred, not deal breakers:

  • Experience with cryogenic gas processing, refrigeration, amine treating, dehydration, compression, and/or gas treating systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward obtaining PE licensure.
  • EPC or consulting engineering experience.
  • Experience serving as a Lead or Senior Process Engineer.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Field experience supporting commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, or facility optimization.
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, DOT, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You're currently a Lead Process Engineer looking for a growing organization where you can have more influence.

Or maybe you're a strong Senior Process Engineer who's ready for the next step but haven't been given the opportunity to officially move into a Lead role.

We're less concerned with your exact job title and more interested in whether you can own your work, make sound technical decisions, communicate confidently with clients, and help develop the engineers around you.

Location & Work Arrangement

This is a full-time position based in our Houston, Texas office and is not a fully remote position.

We believe in-person collaboration is valuable, particularly when multidisciplinary engineering teams are working together to solve complex project challenges.

That said, CANUSA EPC offers hybrid flexibility as needed for appointments, personal obligations, and other circumstances. Our flexibility is designed to support our employees while maintaining an in-office, collaborative work environment.

Occasional travel to client offices and project sites throughout North America may be required.

Why CANUSA EPC?

At CANUSA EPC, experienced engineers have the opportunity to do more than execute one piece of a project.

You’ll work across the project lifecycle, interact directly with clients, collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines, solve challenging process problems, and have the opportunity to see your engineering work carried into the field.

You’ll also have the opportunity to help shape how we execute projects, develop engineering standards, and grow our Process Engineering team.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
