Job description

OverviewWhy United Rotorcraft?

Based in Englewood, Colorado, United Rotorcraft designs and integrates mission-critical aircraft solutions supporting air medical, firefighting, military, law enforcement, and other specialized operations.

As an Electrical Engineer, you'll design and integrate electrical and avionics systems for rotorcraft modification programs from concept through certification. You'll collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Certification, and Quality to develop safe, reliable, and FAA-compliant aircraft solutions that support real-world missions.

Pay

Salary Range: $114,000 - $157,000 AnnuallyActual compensation is based on relevant experience, education, technical expertise, certifications, and overall qualifications. This position is also eligible for Air Methods' comprehensive employee benefits package.

Responsibilities

As a Lead Electrical Engineer, this role provides technical leadership, system ownership, and strategic direction for the electrical scope of assigned programs.

Serve as the Electrical Engineering Lead and Project Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned rotorcraft modification programs.

Own the electrical system architecture, ensuring robust integration of avionics, power distribution, and networked systems across the aircraft.

Demonstrate deep working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 21, 27, and 29, applying regulatory requirements to project-specific electrical and avionics designs.

Develop and execute certification and compliance strategies, including plans of compliance and supporting data packages, to support FAA approval.

Lead the integration of complex, multi-protocol electrical systems, including but not limited to ARINC 429, RS-232/485, Ethernet, and MIL-STD-1553.

Apply SAE ARP 4754B and ARP 4761A principles to system development, requirements validation, and safety assessment activities.

Provide technical mentorship and design oversight for junior and mid-level engineers, fostering strong engineering practices and knowledge growth.

Act as the primary electrical engineering interface with cross-functional teams, program leadership, and certification authorities.

As a Lead Electrical Engineer, this role provides technical leadership, system ownership, and strategic direction for the electrical scope of assigned programs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following

Develop electrical and avionics design concepts; analyze and mature designs; communicate solutions to customers and internal stakeholders. Provide technical leadership on schedule adherence, deliverables, and overall project status. Define system level electrical power architectures to support STCs and Field Approvals. Modify and document COTS equipment as required to meet program needs.

Support design changes, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), system analyses, hardware testing, and prototype development. Participate in project logistics planning, technical reviews, and design meetings.

Develop and/or review technical documentation, including cost estimates, system safety assessments, FMEA, electrical load analysis, wiring/interface schematics, installation and maintenance instructions, and flight manual supplements.

Support certification efforts by preparing and coordinating technical data for ODA projects, FAA STCs, and Field Approvals. Collaborate with Certification and ODA teams to ensure electrical and avionics designs comply with FAA regulations and progress efficiently from design through manufacturing.

Support and, as appropriate, oversee installation activities; plan and prepare installation and repair/modification drawing packages. Develop wiring diagrams and installation data in accordance with FAA regulations and applicable military/industry standards.

Generate and maintain electrical drawings and wiring schematics using AutoCAD and/or

Other Duties as assigned.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis is a lead engineering role, and the candidate is responsible for serving as a team leader. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities such as hiring, firing, and compensation plan development.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering from four-year college or university; and 10 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

10 years previous experience directly related to aircraft electrical/avionics systems preferred

Understanding of FAA certification processes, aircraft operations, and electrical/communication and navigation systems

Ability to Interpret and use aircraft manufacturer's maintenance manuals, equipment installation instructions, and wiring diagrams

Skills

Proficient understanding of 14 CFR Parts 21, 27, and 29 and independently develop required reports, analysis, and artifacts showing compliance thereto.

Proficient with SAE ARP 4754A and ARP 4761B and independently develop required reports, analysis, and artifacts showing compliance thereto.

Capacity to lead the electrical aspects of multiple projects with support from junior engineers

Strong/ demonstrated ability to explain complex requirements, technical concepts, and timelines up, down, and across the enterprise

Strong ability to assess task- and project-level Level of Effort (LOE) in support of quoting.

Ability to develop complex system safety analyses and associated volumes based on certification requirements and customer needs (ARP 4761B)

Computer Skills

Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D) and Solidworks (not required, but preferred)
