Job description

Your Mission
The Product Engineer performs functions to design new products, improve existing products to meet company objectives, manage new product development projects, and perform testing for qualification and proof of product integrity. Products are used in various industrial applications related to the Aerospace and Defense industries.
How you will make a difference
  • Design and develop new products based on customer specifications, company and industry standards.
  • Interact effectively with Product Designers and Drafters to layout new designs and new product specifications.
  • Perform product analysis calculations relating to product design needs and new product orders.
  • Establish project objectives with manager, schedules and costs related to product quality, cost and performance and manage the project to meet customer milestones.
  • Communicate with customers on matters relating to product inquiries and new applications.
  • Develop and establish test methods and procedures for mechanical and electrical systems as assigned.
  • Analyze test results and prepare project reports with recommendations for company action.
  • Identify suppliers of new component parts to assist with design projects.
  • Build or assist manufacturing with prototype models and perform required testing to meet project needs.
  • Apply DFM/DFA to products as needed; prepare piece part drawings.
  • Analyze and determine possible failure modes and establish a project plan of action to effectively increase reliability.
  • Assist subsidiaries with technical questions.
  • Make sales calls with Salespeople at customer sites.

What you should be good at
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required, Aerospace or Defense industry preferred.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and proposals. Ability to effectively present information. and respond to questions from colleagues, managers, and customers.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to convert between imperial and metric measurements.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a small cross-functional engineering team.
  • Ability to design new products through use of CAD software, calculations, and testing.
  • Ability to perform MTBF and FMEA calculations.
  • Ability to review and understand aerospace and defense specifications and statements of work.
  • Ability to manage customer requirements through a compliance matrix.

  • Location: This role is based at the Deublin Company facility in Waukegan, IL. The role will be on site, with the opportunity to expand to 3 days onsite / 2 days work from home, based on performance, and following a 90-day introductory period.
  • Travel: 20% travel with Sales representatives to customer sites.
