Amazon Web Services is seeking Senior Electrical Controls Engineers to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of our designs and the continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. Engineers at Amazon: Work to design resilient, cost effective systems. Are responsible for achieving a world-class uptime for our customers. They justify and communicate the technical decisions we make to Senior Management and work hard to drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs. They drive change and define/design the systems our customers rely on. They have hands on controls design and field experience and have an understanding of the critical controls needs for a data center. As we grow, we are structuring our team to own more of our engineering in house.
At Amazon, teamwork is absolutely necessary for us to accomplish our goals. You must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As a controls engineer at Amazon, you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
As an Engineer in this role, you will work with the Principals and Senior Electrical and Controls Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the controls space. You will participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services. Relied on as a subject matter expert in the controls engineering field, you write technical documentation for such projects. Your tasks include conceiving, initiating and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation. You will achieve this by breaking down complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions. This will be achieved by working with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges as well as collaborating with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries. You will escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
Part of the role will also include the review and approval of critical equipment submittals including vendor Witness Tests, provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE's), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans. You will also be expected to maintain and host technical EPMS forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of data center electrical systems. As well as provide support and mentorship for the whole of the DCC engineering community, all while having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions.
Key job responsibilities
Under the direction of an engineering manager, the Senior Electrical Controls Engineer will be responsible for the following:
• Design and implement energy-efficient electrical controls systems for data centers
• Create comprehensive documentation for electrical EPMS controls designs and operational procedures
• BIM/CAD experience
• Support continuous improvement through data analysis and system optimization
• Guide project teams through planning, execution, and commissioning phases
• Conceives, initiates, and leads projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation.
• Decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions.
• Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges.
• Collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures, and countries.
• Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
• Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports.
• Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Electrical Controls Basis of Design (BoD) with constant auditing.
• Drive standardization in the data center electrical-controls space.
• Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
• Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions.
• Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects.
• Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE's), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans.
• Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
• Maintain and host technical EPMS forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of data center controls systems.
• Provide support and mentorship for the whole of the Data Center Engineering community.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
- Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
- Minimum 2+ years experience with products required controls designs.
