Job Description

Express Employment Professionals in Lynchburg is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for one of its well-established clients in the Lynchburg area. This position is responsible for designing and supporting the implementation of PLC-based control systems and panels for material-handling equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience with electrical control-panel design, AutoCAD, programmable controllers, and manufacturing documentation. This position is for a detail-oriented engineering professional who enjoys turning technical requirements into reliable control solutions.

Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Experience designing electrical control panels and PLC-based control systems
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable electrical-design software
  • Knowledge of programmable controllers, I/O requirements, and memory requirements
  • Understanding of motor and control circuits
  • Familiarity with UL 508A specifications
  • Ability to read, review, and revise electrical drawings and schematics
  • Experience creating bills of materials and production documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Job Responsibilities

  • Design control panels using AutoCAD and other applicable software
  • Prepare field-component and conveyor layouts based on control-system requirements
  • Add motors, solenoids, photo eyes, limit switches, and other components to field layouts
  • Select programmable controllers based on project I/O, memory, and customer requirements
  • Design and specify motor and control circuits in accordance with UL 508A specifications
  • Generate bills of materials for control panels, consoles, and field components
  • Complete production orders identifying the materials and components required for manufacturing
  • Support the construction and wiring of control panels
  • Prepare and submit layout sketches, schematic sketches, bills of materials, and production worksheets
  • Review preliminary drawings and bills of materials and make necessary corrections
  • Coordinate interfaces and other technical requirements with outside vendors
  • Provide telephone support for field installation and troubleshooting
  • Address customer-service issues as needed
  • Work overtime when required

Pay and Schedule

$38โ€“$55 an hour, based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated controls-design expertise.

Available work schedules are 4:00 a.m.โ€“2:30 p.m. or 5:00 a.m.โ€“3:30 p.m.
